U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested more than 37,500 immigrants across New York and New Jersey during roughly the first 18 months of President Donald Trump's second term, more than double the number recorded during the preceding 18 months under Joe Biden, according to a Gothamist investigation.
The analysis, based on federal records obtained by the Deportation Data Project, identified more than 19,500 arrests in New York and nearly 18,000 in New Jersey. Most involved Latin American men without criminal histories.
