A subsidiary of private detention company The GEO Group, Inc. reported payments totalling $4.413 million (£3.3 million) to MAGA Inc., the political committee supporting Donald Trump, according to federal campaign finance filings.
The payments raise questions about how campaign finance restrictions apply when a company connected to federal contracting makes political payments through a separate legal entity. Whether the transactions fall foul of federal contractor rules depends on the donor's legal and tax status, as well as its contracting position during the relevant periods.
