Q&A Summary
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Justin thanks for your comments - this is one reason why IBD Live is so helpful. | :) |
Pinching of MAs on FCX. On close watch. | A good one to watch |
Thoughts on MOS? | A streak of gains in above average volume, putting it back above the 200-day line which is good. I'd like to see it form a new base here. Just a bit concerning to see how the earnings have deteriorated. When it was in growth mode, that's when the stock was really booming. Plus, group is now a weak 162 out of the 197 groups that IBD tracks |
sorry got on late, did you go through ARHRand reason for drop? | AEHR — yes — getting hit along with other silicon carbide stocks on comments from Tesla's investor day. Even though it's well off its lows, it's stil down 22%. We think this is an opportunity to get out at a better price vs. down over 30%. It looks like a broken stock now. |
where would I find the new options app? | App Store on ios. |
The Market Recap report was not posted until 6:20 PM ET last night. Hopefully that will not be the new norm. | Are you talking about the market prep PM newsletter? |
any reason AEHR is gapping down? | Comments from TSLA investor day |
Can you comment on LMT? Support at the 21 day and trading tight. If defense spending goes up LMT may be able to move. | Could set a line alert connecting 498 and 489 and see ifit can clear that level in strong volume |
ACLS..perfect bounce off 10 week MA. But buying here in this market is so difficult | Crazy that it's well off lows and still down 10% |
LW. holding above 100. thoughts? | Definitely holding great. I feel like it needs some sort of shakeout/reversal. I'd rather buy that way than at a breakout |
PCAR ? | Finding support where you'd like to see it. A slower mover but outperforming the broad market |
Any thoughts on PSTG? | Gap down in heavy volume triggers a sell signal. Not something we'd want to be holding |
PI....? thank you | Getting hit alongside other chips today but finding support at the 21-day |
gonna be a fun open for AEHR today Justin!! | Glad I didn't end up adding to it yesterday! |
Good morning IBD Team | GM David |
Good morning Team! | GM David! |
Good morning! | GM Gyorgy! Thank you for joining us |
Where is the futures column located? Also were is the option column? | go to investors.com/options |
Is there a way to screen for stocks in 1st stage bases | Go to Lists at the bottom, then Reports, Stocks, Technical and scroll down to Bases Forming. You can sort that list by Weekly Base, which you can sort by stage. |
Harold - I tried to follow your path to "Stocks Resisting pullback" screen - can you repeat or resend? | Go to Screens, then Stock Guide, Product Coach, and scroll down near the bottom. |
how much do you think TSLA was impacted by their exposure to china given tensions with U.S. and slap down China gave Musk telling him 'don't bite the hand that feeds you' | Good point; I would think Musk works very hard to maintain positive relations with China regulators. During conference calls, Musk has often praised the China team for how quickly it got Giga Shanghai built and up and running. It truly is a linchpin of the company's vehicle manufacturing strategy. |
BURL Interesting EPS Gap Up. Back over 10-wk. Broke above a Trend Line. +3.37% Vol +967% Acc/Dis B- and U/D Vol 1.3 How will it finish today? | Good points, wish I mentioned it in the news. Def a challenge of support at the 50-day line as well. |
There are many market indicators that an investor can look at. Which "forward looking indicators" do you watch. | Good Q. On our Tuesday episodes, David Ryan has made an important point in looking at these things: 1) a break of either an uptrend or downtrend in the Nasdaq, NYSE advance-decline lines; 2) divergence in an index or stock's price action and its overbought/oversold stochastic oscillator; and a feel for the action on intraday charts. From an IBD perspective, the follow-through day remains the most important forward looking indicator of an emerging uptrend. Every major market bottom since 1900 began with a FTD. And heavy distribution always presages a major market top, based on decades of research. Hope this helps, HatMan -- https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/what-is-a-follow-through-day/ + https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/how-do-you-spot-a-major-market-top-easy-look-for-heavy-distribution/ |
FOUR Holding its gap up. | Good to see |
That's good! I know you were talking about it yesterday. | Great! |
I've enjoyed the Options tips Rachel has been providing in the MarketDiem. | Great! |
what's happening with DXCM? I can't find any news.... | Had a presentation last night. Don't know what was said. |
What were the morning tickers, please? | Harold: AXP, Rachel: RCL, Justin: FICO |
I don't know if this has been asked/addressed before, but is there any plan in putting on the Marketsmith daily and weekly charts an annotation of the market status (confirmed uptrend, market under pressure, market in correction)? | Hey Hassan! For those who have Leaderboard and our Market School online course, we have a chart that gets market up daily with an update on the market's status. You can reach out to our customer success team for further details! Ask for Bridget :) |
Has anyone discussed AEHR, got here late this morning? Thanks, got hammered by the open | Hey Mark! Yes we covered earlier — getting hit on Tesla investor day headlines re: scaling back on silicon carbide. Even though it's well off its lows, it's stil down 22%. We think this is an opportunity to get out at a better price vs. down over 30%. It looks liek a broken stock now. |
DID I MISS COMMENTS ON DVN? | Hey Patricia! DVN is a laggard stock that we're not paying attention to becaue its below all of its major moving averages |
Does a cup with a handle work with 5 min chart? | Hi Gary, Way too much noise, wouldn't be a signal we would use, any intraday charts for patterns |
Ed, can you change the screen view? You guys take up half the view, so charts onlly half. Too small for me. | Hi Michael, you can adjust this on your end. Drag the vertical bar between the hosts and the chart and you can make the hosts smaller. |
Justin's volume too low. Thanks | I think I knocked my mic down on my headset. Let's see if it's fixed next time I talk. |
Private: Ali- no response requested just FYI. On Maruta's comment: 6:20 PM last night is when you said you forwarded my issue to customer service. Ironically, I didn't get the "there was a glitch" email with the recap until 9:35 AM this morning. | I think Maruta is referring to a different newsletter. I sent out yesterday's IBD Live newsletter this morning! :) It wasn't just you, there was an issue with the service that sends the emails and it didn't go out. |
Sorry to hear that Justin. Your handling it well. | I've had worse! |
When will Options Trader app be available for Android? | I've asked our product team |
will the app be available for android? | I've asked our product team! |
can i load on laptop option app | If you have a Mac, you might be able to. Reach out to marketsmith@investors.com and ask for Gerry for more info. |
FSLR is holding its gap up. | Indeed |
TGLS showing after $E strength | Indeed Leslie; great action since Tecnoglass cleared a trendline near 25 and early entry at 28.62. |
FXI KWEB doing well this morning | Indeed! |
gm - can you post the link for the IBD Live FAQ page? Thank you! | investors.com/ibdliveFAQ |
Justin, please mention costs for Option App | It's "freemium" — free stuff available and then there is indeed a premium version. But you can read all about it in the app! |
When will options trader be available on international app stores? I cant see it. | Just asked our product team |
when will options trader be available for Android? | Just asked our product team! |
is it also available on desktop? | Just iPhone app right now |
I did reach out. They can't help because it's not on the IBD platform like my other IBD products. | Let me see what I can do! |
Box getting beat down too | live answered |
What do you think about the SIC chips: AEHR, ON, etc. down on Elon's remarks about reducing use of silicon. | live answered |
Good day to all! AEHR is pulling back, but quite a bit in premarket. Is this pull back a potential buying opportunity, or is this pull back big enough that AEHR will need to serve time in jail before becoming actionable? Thank you! | live answered |
Is AEHR down so much because it receives 92% of its revenue from just 4 counterparties ? That's what Friday's guest said. | live answered |
Elon talked about using less silicon carbide in their next generation of cheaper cars | live answered |
TBT up to 32.50 area. | live answered |
ACLS down a lot | live answered |
AEHR? | live answered |
AEHR getting hammered !! | live answered |
AEHR .. -30%.. "wow".. | live answered |
DXCM - opening bounce on heavy volume | live answered |
acls | live answered |
TBT- breaking out | live answered |
OK so here's the problem with AEHR, and I mentioned this the other day when David Ryan was on. AEHR largest customer, by far, is ON Semi. And now TSLA says they will reduce their dependence on SiC chips which ON growth is dependent on. | live answered |
AEHR - getting hit here as well - it doesn't matter how quickly TSLA moves away - growth stocks like this anticipate massive TAMs that are difficult to quantify - this news puts a limit in place that wasn't there before - and the outized valuation is trashed. |
live answered |
ALGM? | live answered |
ACLS?? | live answered |
Thoughs on MBLY with a bounce off the 50 day | live answered |
Good am! MBLY looks great off 50dma. I know Eric Kroll liked this one. Still looking good? | live answered |
Thanks on CRM | live answered |
RCL - juxtapose to its competitors Rachel. Impressive! | live answered |
Cruises are filling up fast; you have to book early! wife and i have crusied on RCL, | live answered |
mbly just touched 50 day line, what is your analysis of this stock? | live answered |
ALGM bouncing off the 21 EMA - is this a David Ryan climb on board entry? | live answered |
10yr gapped up, ouch. | live answered |
ALGM | live answered |
MPLX is abnormally calm for its personality, it can be very choppy, best to buy on a pullback | live answered |
AEHR | live answered |
briefly yesterday morning, i saw the optiontrader tab on ibd, however, i dont see it anymore. could you please spend some time introduce the feature? thanks. | live answered |
i glanced over it very quickly, it seems that it is a good way to jump start the option trading especially with the education part. | live answered |
Ed ... great tip showing YTD performance for a stock on the Related Info Technical tab. You just taught an old bird a new trick. Thank you | live answered |
Harold, that is GREAT to know about the Stocks Resisting Correction screen. What other great screens have you been hiding from us? ;) | live answered |
Lovin' me some Harold this morning! Thanks for the screening idea Harold! | live answered |
Thanks Harold. . . whole new world of screeners! | live answered |
Thanks Harold for sharing that screen folder; I wasn't aware of all those. Learning something new every day! | live answered |
TGLS NH | Looks good for those who own! But too extended to be buying here |
DV gap up over DT line | Looks interesting but it's too bad the earnings slowed |
YOUR THOUGHTS ON MOS | Looks interesting, and seeing it strengthen so that's great. Not an entry I'd be considering but I think it should be on the radar, hopefully it'll form a tight base or handle here. |
can we take a look at LNG? | Looks really interesting. Strong move on earnings and now tightening up right around 160. Would keep this one on watch |
AEHR up about 17% off the low. That's a Dan Fitzpatrick trade, as I recall from past IBD visits, but it's not for me. | Maybe a day trade but I wouldn't hold it. |
What's the problem sith silicon carbide? I understood that this was an important new technology. But Elon says... | Maybe Musk does not like the price of SiC chips? |
Can you also look at MNST? | Moving up nicely today, but still below 50-day and has an accumulation/distribution rating of E which signals overwhelming net selling by institutions. |
Dxcm please | Nice move today, presenting a potential entry. I'm concerned about resistance around 120 though |
MTZ finally broke out higher yesterday, too risky here? | Nice upside reversal on earnings. Feels a touch extended here but it's less than 6% above the 10-week. Maybe it can have an orderly pullback to the 21-day line. Earnings have been rough but forward-looking estimates look good |
thanks Ed! | Nice! |
Oh, I see, I control that. Sorry | No worries at all! :) |
would you say TBT is actionable ? | No. It's extended. |
Is option trader app available on Android? | Not yet. |
Thoughts on ABNB? | On the positive side, good to see it hodking support at the prior buy point, 21-day line and 120 price level. But not good to see it pull back from 144 to 120 in such a short amount of time. Maybe it needs more time to frm a base here |
"Stocks Resisting Correction" screen - hilariously buried as an Easter egg deep in the recesses of MarketSmith. | Once you find it save as a favorite, for instructions on how save as favorite, send an eail to marketsmith@investors.com |
Any thoughts on MNDY? | One to watch as enterprise software tries to make a comeback. Would want to see it pause here a little longer and form a base |
Great! Thx! Appname? | OptionsTrader by IBD |
Could you repeat the name of the options app again please? | OptionsTrader by IBD. |
How what the name of the apps | OptionTrader by IBD |
Why move away for Si Carbide? | Perhaps Musk's move for cheaper materials -- lead, for instance -- is mirroring what's being done by its China rivals including BYD is a shock to investors. For sure, the media and Wall Street have sung the praises of efficiency w/ carbide chips. But it seems Musk is clearly steering away in the longer term. Question is, how will other big automakers move? |
I'm in ACLS but had a 7% gain so it held | Phil, we cannot comment on anything that includes your personal info. Thanks! |
MA unrelazied gain from IBD swingtrader is -$718.58, average cost $372.28 | |
Please help me by analyzing stock chart | Please make sure to join our SwingTrader scorecard webinar this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET, we would be happy to answer questions and talk about our strategies, etc.! Register here: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_J81PSlXGS7O5B656YYHPOw |
CCL? | RCL looks way better |
I have that and I do not see it? I click on "open stock ideas" and I have 4 tabs, it is not under any of those? | reach out to marketsmith@investors.com for help with this! |
Are IBD team members reducing their exposure? Thought on whether a market correction in the works? | Reducing exposure yes. Depending on how today goes, we could soon be in correction status |
Did I miss AEHR news? | Related to TSLA, which says it will reduce silicon carbide in its cars. |
FSLR character after yesterdays break out, any thoughts? | Right now looking quite strong |
any news on VMW ER expectations? | Stock is looking really weak. Looks like they report tonight? Doesn't look like something I'd want to be holding with all that heavy volume coming in on the downside. |
Is that TSLA news why SOXX is doing so much worse than SPY, QQQ, and IWM? | Sure makes sense |
Did you cover AEHR? What happened? | Tesla investor day comments re: using less silicon carbide |
What is up with semi's. rotation or what. ACLS AEHR and ON huge liquadations | Tesla Investor Day, Musk announced future model will move away from silicon carbide. |
Joined late. What happened to ACLS, a leading stock? | Tesla made comments during its investor day last night about using less silicon carbide, so that's hitting all the silicon carbide-related chip stocks. |
Ali thanks for your commets. Always appreciated | Thank you for all the great questions and comments! :) |
Must have missed the special IBD Live promotion "two consecutive days of Harold Morris" this week. 😊 Big fan of his thoughtful analysis. | Thank you for your king words!! |
Hat Man...that was a excellent Big Picture yesterday...a lot of good information in the recap!! | Thank you very much Russell! I hope the commentary from buy-side fund managers that I try to inject into my Big Picture stories is insightful and useful! Dave -- https://www.investors.com/market-trend/the-big-picture/stock-market-endures-chop-fest-as-small-caps-outperform-is-value-investing-truly-dead/ |
Great Driving Music | Thanks Craig |
We gotta take a look at TSLA for sure, oh and SI | Thanks for noting SI, Julie; yes, Silvergate reportedly suspends its Series A Preferred Stock Dividend, which has a 5.375% coupon. Company: "This decision reflects the Company's focus on maintaining a highly liquid balance sheet with a strong capital position as it navigates recent volatility in the digital asset industry. The Company continues to maintain a cash position in excess of its digital asset customer related deposits." |
watched IBD shorts on youtube about AMD earlier, is it back on the radar yet? | Thanks for watching, Stephen! Would want to see some strength coming back into the stock, but I'd say yes it's on the radar… |
I have Options Trader and the platform it is on SUCKS. You have no idea what plan your on, when it ends, no information whatsoever.. | Thanks for your feedback, Kim. Sorry to hear this. Have you reached out to our customer success team for help with this? Please do so if you haven't already so they can help you: https://ibd.my.site.com/s/ |
DXCM presented at conferences yesterday afternoon and is presenting again on March 7 ---- | Thanks! |
OLED extended for entry over the recent highs? | That outside day on aernings might have been a good entry. It's a little extended from ideal levels |
TGLS gapped-up on earnings today....thoughts on it? | The stock was already extended heading into the report. A hold for those who own, or a chance to lock in some gains. Too extended to buy here per IBD's rules |
I remember Matt Caruso two visits ago touting the fundamentals of OKTA. With today's move, it's above the AVWAP from the Feb 2nd high for only the 2nd time (closed above it for one day on 2-15). Today a good 5% above the VWAP line and that line has just turned higher (slope also important accd to Brian Mr. VWAP Shannon). Good earnings estimates, esp 2025. A small starter position to see if it holds the gap seems sensible for a bottoming base trade. |
The technicals and fundamentals look great. I'm looking for a way back in. |
AEHR and ACLS both down significantly today. ARGH | These stocks' moves were amazing in the short term; but they also highlight one of IBD's most important sell rules: controlling greed by taking at least partial gains at 20%, 25%, 30% or more -- https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/how-to-handle-stock-market-expectations/ + https://www.investors.com/how-to-invest/investors-corner/how-to-build-long-term-profits-in-stocks-take-many-gains-at-20-25/ |
Any reason why DXCM is up 5% today? I can't find any news. | They spoke at some conference yesterday but I don't know what exactly they said |
LB stock UBER is about to get stopped out | This one has been tough in recent days, no doubt. I like how it's pushing off the early morning low, but do not like the lack of strong support at the 21-day EMA, Mark. A 6% loss from the 34.43 base entry, but still nicely above its 50-day line, and the early trendline buy point near 29. https://leaderboard.investors.com/#/leaders/leaders |
"nothng good happens under 21d" what a simple but powerfull statemnt coming fromthe charles and Webby duo | Truth! |
CELH | Trying to reverse higher on earnings but strong resistance at a declining 21-day line. I'd want to see it get above the 50-day line too before getting interested |
CRWD -- | Trying to turn around but still well below the 200-day line. Let's see what the earnings report is like |
Any thought on EcoLab ECL? | Trying to turn around but there are other stocks out there that are stronger from a fundamental and technical perspective, and group strength |
What caused the 30% decline in AEHR? | TSLA investor day comments |
What happened to AEHR? | TSLA said it may reduce the use of silicon carbide chips. |
I missed the first half hour of the show (alas) and haven't heard why AEHR and some of the chip stocks have taken a dive. I don't see anything in the "Stock Market Today" or elsewhere on the IBD web site . . . | TSLA said it plans to reduce its use of silicon carbide chips. |
Does anyone on the team know of a way to to find ETF's that align with IBD's Industry Groups? Thank you. | We have a list of ETFs that we track at investors.com/LiveFAQ :) |
Could you please spend more time on stocks settling up and ready to buy rather than spending disproportionate time on stocks that are breaking down or extended | |
Thanks | We talked about stocks that setting up: ONON, PANW, FTNT, UAL, consider watching the recording for details |
How close are we to Correction status? Will it just take a down day on volume at this point? | We're getting very close to updating the status… |
Thoughts on LPLA? Thanks! | We're watching this one. Added to Leaderboard yesterday |
XM setting up? great RS and setting up for a break above 17.2 | Weekly chart shows a potentially actionable entry in my view |
Does IBD see money shifting from technology to commodity? | Well, we definitely saw that from Q4 2021 to end of 2022. Will it stick? Perhaps in some sectors of commodities -- for instance, with the UKR war showing no signs of ending soon, Europe has been scrambling to beef up its renewables and LNG capacity. Meanwhile, gold has lost its luster lately. Copper has rebounded nicely, up 6% since Jan 1 but at $4.07/lb it's still well below its 2022 peak of $5.03. |
FCX—do you ignore the #'s? | With cyclical stocks the fundamentals will often not have the history. You are looking for the evidence of the turnaround in the cycle. |
Lot of landmines out there, geeze. | Yeah :( |
BURL Lost its EPS Gap UP mojo . . .. | Yeah getting weighed down |
I don't think anything is definite about this market, including leading industry groups, good luck buying because of RS right now | Yeah there are a few diamonds in the rough, but this market is incredibly tricky right now |
Have you looked at MBLY in chips. Reversing from MA50 | yes, an aggressive entry here. But would be great to see it pause and tighten up before blasting higher again |
AEHR ouch! | Yes, bad ouch |
Did i miss the comments on AEHR? | Yes, it's a sell if you're following IBD sell rules. Broken stock. Time to step aside and avoid further damage. For those who haven't sold yet, getting out with it down 23% vs. 30% would be getting a better price. |
Hi Harold. Good morning! Would you say that LNTH's gap up is working or is it too early to say yet? | Yes, this gap up is working. The low of the day it gapped up was never tested |
Comments on NRDS? Extended but showing a ton of strength! | Yes, this is now on our radar. Keeping an eye out for a new proper entry. Needs to pause/pull back before we can get in. Very impressive strength |
If Justin updates every cell of that spreadsheet every week, that is A LOT OF WORK! Thanks Justin. | Yes, we appreciate all of his work!! |
AEHR: In case anyone is wondering, AEHR down 19% premarket. Its profit driver is silicon carbide wafer testing equipment. Tesla announced 75% reduction of silicon carbide in next generation powertrain at last night's Investor presentation. | Yes. Silicon carbide chip plays down hard. |
DUOL, bien aqui? | Yesterday was the day to act in my view |
Do I need a special subscription to get the blue dot screen? | You must have a MarketSmith Premium subscription |
I won't comment anymore. | Your comments are always welcome, we just can't answer when you tell us that you own it. |
