Ianis Hagi suffers Rangers VAR red card nightmare on Ibrox return

Ianis Hagi was sent off on his return for Rangers after 14 months out of the first-team.

The Ibrox midfielder received a rousing reception as he climbed off the bench in the Scottish Premiership contest against St Johnstone.

Hagi - who had been out due to a contract issue - resolved his stand-off with the club during the week and returned to first-team training after spending time with the B team.

The Romanian internationalist made the perfect start to life back in the first team at Rangers as his through ball allowed Vaclav Cerny to rifle home for Rangers' second.

However, with around ten minutes left, Hagi was ordered off by referee David Dickinson after a VAR review.

A rash challenge from Hagi on Benjamin Kimpioka was initially punished by a yellow card.

But, Dickinson was advised to review the tackle at the pitchside monitor and then upgraded the punishment to a red card with Hagi forced off.

Hagi will now be sidelined for two matches as serious foul play rules state an automatic two-match suspension for offenders.
