Ianis Hagi Rangers future discussed as Jose Mourinho transfer link addressed

Ianis Hagi's agent has admitted it may be difficult for the player to leave Rangers on a permanent basis this summer.

Giovanni Becali has conceded the level of contract Hagi has signed at Ibrox could present an issue for interested clubs during the transfer window.

However, he has tipped the Romanian midfielder for a possible second season out on loan as he seeks "continuity" over stop-start minutes in Glasgow.

Hagi - who is currently representing Romania at Euro 2024 - will report back to Auchenhowie for pre-season before a decision is made on his future amid speculation over an exit.

Becali told Fanatik: “He has a contract with Rangers. He will go there for pre-season, start training and then the decision will be made if they will loan him.

"He has a bigger contract. It’s hard to find a buyer. He needs continuity.”

Becali's brother Victor recently cited Fenerbahce as a possible destination for Hagi with speculation Jose Mourinho could move for the Rangers attacking midfielder.

While Becali silenced the rumours of any discussions over a move, he did not rule out a transfer to Turkey should there be genuine interest from the new Fenerbahce manager.

“If there was a Romanian player at Fener, I would be called immediately," said Becali. "Mourinho only started (pre-season) training yesterday.

“I know the situation very well. If Mourinho needs a player, he would contact me. About Ianis, there were simple speculations. That doesn’t mean that if I had an offer for Ianis, I wouldn’t be interested.”

Hagi was already out on loan at Alaves for the season when Philippe Clement arrived at Rangers as manager meaning there was no opportunity to play his way into the Belgian's immediate plans.
