Ianis Hagi in Rangers Champions League fitness fight as dad Gheorghe offers comeback update

Gheorghe Hagi insists Rangers are back where they belong in the Champions League and has hinted son Ianis could play a part in it. Ianis Hagi has been out with a serious knee injury since suffering the setback in a Scottish Cup win against Stirling Albion last January.

But he's back in light training and is expected to be back in action before the end of the year. Rangers face Ajax, Liverpool and Napoli in the Champions League and the Romanian international will be desperate to be involved. And former Real Madrid and Barcelona legend Hagi senior is hopeful his son will play in the elite tournament.

He said: "Ianis is working very hard to come back and he is very happy his team are doing well. Rangers are back in the Champions League, where they belong. We hope that when the time is right, which will hopefully be soon, Ianis will be back on the pitch when Rangers say he is ready. He is definitely on the right track though."

Hagi, 23, has scored 17 league goals in 67 league starts for Rangers before his injury nightmare started last season.
