Galatasaray are reportedly considering a move for Rangers star Ianis Hagi with an ally of his dad Gheorghe claiming the playmaker would be "very interested" in following in his father's footsteps.
The 24-year-old has not feature for the Light Blues in over a year with after picking up a major ACL injury during the Scottish Cup tie against Stirling Albion last January. Despite the long-term absence Michael Beale has made it clear that he views Hagi as key to his long-term plans in Govan as he handed him a new contract until 2025 as one of his first duties as Rangers boss.
Despite this, reports in Turkey have suggested Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has put a deal for Hagi at the top of his wishlist before the January window is over. While a new deal could have been agreed to add value, a move away from Rangers this month would be a major shock given Beale's show of faith in the player. An agreement would see Hagi Jr return to Istanbul where he was born, and where his father became a Galtasaray hero after the former Real Madrid and Barcelona star helped them win the UEFA Cup before later becoming manager.
Hagi Sr's former teammate at Barcelona Gheorghe Popescu reckons Ianis would jump at the chance of moving to Turkey. He said: "It would be a wonderful thing for Ianis to go to the team where his father made history. I think that Ianis would be very interested in returning to Istanbul. He is almost back playing for Rangers, so let's see what happens next week before the end of the transfer window."
