Ian Wright's playful dig at grandson D'Margio Wright-Philips amid Crystal Palace vs Stoke clash

Ian Wright has responded to his grandson's claim that he's a better finisher than him with a fun and playful dig about his confidence on Twitter.

D'Margio Wright-Philips, who made his professional debut in the third round of the FA Cup earlier this season and scored on his first home start in the Championship, made the bold claim in an interview with The Times, via the Daily Mail, this week.

When asked about the similarities to his father - Shaun Wright-Phillips - he said: "It's the low centre of gravity, the confidence to try and take on a player."

He then added: "With my grandad [Wright], I'd say I think I've got better finishing than him."

Arsenal legend Wright found the net 387 goals in a hugely successful playing career and is the Gunners' second all-time record goalscorer (185) behind Thierry Henry (228).

With that in mind, the Gunners legend jokingly responded to his grandson's statement on Twitter, saying: "Look at the chest on this yute."

The tweet was accompanied with several laughing faces and three heart emojis as Wright was clearly proud of the 20-year-old's confidence.

And if D'Margio is indeed telling the truth, his finishing must be of a very high standard, something that is only strengthened by what Patrick Vieira has said about the youngster's grandfather.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Crystal Palace's FA Cup clash with D'Margio's Stoke City on Tuesday night, Wright's former teammate Vieira spoke about how good he was at finishing as a player.

"When I met Ian [Wright] for the first time he was the player who brought the light in the room, always positive, smiling, a really good character and I loved the couple of years that we spent together," he said.

"On the field what really surprised me was his finishing. He would create one chance and score. He’s really clinical in front of goal and this was his strength."

D'Margio has a long way to go to reach the level of his grandfather, but with his level of confidence and reported technical ability, anything is surely possible.
