Ian Wright makes "strange" Son Heung-min transfer claim after winning Golden Boot

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright admits he is shocked as to why Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-min is not linked with more clubs after a stunning 2021/22 campaign.

The South Korean become the first ever Asian to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot award on Sunday afternoon after scoring twice in the 5-0 win over Norwich City to move him level on goals with Mohamed Salah (23) for the season.

However, despite a consistent and impressive spell at Tottenham that has seen the forward net 131 times in 325 appearances in all competitions since arriving in 2015, Son has not been linked away with transfer interest all that often, something which shocks Arsenal legend Wright.

“I am delighted that he has won it because he doesn’t get linked (away from the club) and it’s strange,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“He’s got pace. He finishes off both feet. He works back and can do everything. Son can get the ball in his own half and run through the whole team.

“I can’t understand how he doesn’t get linked with more teams? But what I am pleased for him is that he has something to show for being a top player in this league.”

How does Son Heung-Min compare to the rest of the Premier League's wingers? Have your say in the comments section.

It was the first time that Son has reached over 20 goals in a Premier League campaign, with his previous best tally being the 17 he netted for Spurs last season. The South Korean has 93 goals to his name in the Premier League and is now just seven strikes away from joining the illustrious Premier League 100 club.

In each of the last six seasons, Son has scored 18 or more goals in all competitions for Antonio Conte’s side and his impressive goal-scoring form, alongside that of England captain Harry Kane, saw Tottenham qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the Premier League campaign.

On Tuesday, following Tottenham’s return to the Champions League, Spurs announced that they have invested a further £150million of capital into the club, allowing them to invest on and off the pitch.

Speaking on the investment, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy added: “The delivery of a world-class home was always a key building block in driving diversified revenues to enable us to invest in the teams and support our ambitions to be consistently competing at the highest levels of European football.

“Additional capital from ENIC will now enable further investment in the club at an important time.’’

Since Conte succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo at the start of November, only Manchester City (73) and Liverpool (70) earned more points in the Premier League than Spurs (56) last season.
