Ian Wright has claimed that the Leeds United board need to back Jesse Marsch in the transfer window if they are to avoid another relegation battle. With all the injuries to key players, the lack of depth in the squad at Elland Road was exposed and was very nearly the reason the Whites joined Norwich and Watford in next season’s Championship.
If nothing else, that will surely have awakened Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta that they need to operate with a larger squad. While a rest is certainly needed after such a taxing season, the work must begin immediately to rectify the issues.
Speaking on Sunday evening’s Match of the Day, Wright claimed that any investment in the playing staff will be coming several months too late. He said: “I think the Leeds board will be breathing a sigh of relief because, yes they’ve been unlucky with injuries, but January they should’ve strengthened that team. That team’s thin. When you look at the way they came up and what [Marcelo] Bielsa did, brilliant.

“I think that Bielsa was treated badly in the end, he brought a Championship team up, did brilliantly in the league and in the end, he ran out of steam because they didn’t back him and they sacked him. Hopefully they’ll back Jesse Marsch.”
According to rumours, it already seems like one of the top priorities on the summer agenda is being addressed, Incidentally, it’s a player that Bielsa tried to bring to Elland Road in January as the cogs are fully back in motion for the signing of Brenden Aaronson.
His seemingly pending arrival will help with creativity and fill the void in the area between the midfield and whoever is playing in the frontline. Although, the defence still desperately needs shoring up. Conceding 79 goals in 38 games is inexplicable and almost led to relegation.
