Ian Wright issues passionate defence of Marcus Rashford after Manchester United confrontation

Manchester United fans have been split over Marcus Rashford's response to fans in a video that has been circulating on social media. In the video the fans are shown to be jeering and criticising the winger who then turns around and reacts negatively, asking one fan to 'come and say that to [his] face'.

Rashford's poor has caused some fans to question whether he had the right to confront fans who were upset about their team exiting the Champions League at the hands of Atletico Madrid, while others said he had every right to confront them for what was deemed an unnecessary pile on after a match where he will have known he didn't play well.

The video, which was uploaded the day after United's defeat and the incident occurred, was up for a few hours with speculation over what was said varying from person to person. Then Rashford issued a response on his social media.

He stated: "A video can paint a thousand words and in this case inaccurate info being shared on social media. Guys for weeks I've been heckled, threatened, questioned and last night my emotion got the better of me.

"I'm a human being. Reading and hearing that stuff about yourself every day it wears you down. No one is more critical of my performance than me. But what you see in the video lacks context. I had been heckled from the minute I stepped foot outside the ground, abuse not just aimed at my football."

The statement continued with the apology and also was shared by United's official Twitter account and now former England and Arsenal striker Ian Wright has released his own statement, both in support of Rashford but also criticising the constant apology culture that has become prevalent in modern football.

He said: "Listen just got to address something I saw. Someone just sent me the Marcus Rashford video where he confronted the fans because the fans were digging him out and he offered one of them out. I don't know who's doing it man, who's doing this apologising for him, what the f*** is he apologising for that for?

"These people are quick to say 'oh I'm so sorry', that's what gives these fans that fuel to think they can dig people out. Marcus stand your ground man. You've got these people jumping saying so 'oh Marcus is so sorry', don't be sorry for that bro.

"Some of these fans love giving it when they can't take it man. You just do your stuff and get back to where you need to be bro, where you're playing."

Wright has been supportive of Rashford in the past throughout the highs and lows of his career and this only shows more the strength of that support, but is the former England forward right?
