Ian McCall hails Aidan Fitzpatrick's creativity as winger seals Partick Thistle return

IAN McCALL is looking forward to getting the most out of Aidan Fitzpatrick after the 21-year-old sealed a return to Partick Thistle.

The Thistle Weir Youth Academy graduate rose to prominence in the 2018/19 campaign, playing a crucial role as the Jags beat the drop to League One, before moving down south to sign for Norwich City.

The winger struggled in England before sealing a return to Scotland in 2020 by joining Queen of the South on a loan deal before the switch was made permanent the following summer.

Fitzpatrick departed Palmerston at the end of last season as the Borders club were relegated to the third tier and has been training with Thistle as a triallist this summer.

The Jags had to thrash out a development fee with Queens to complete the move and now that the is have been dotted and the ts crossed on a two-year deal, McCall is eager to see what the wide player will bring to the first team at Firhill.

"We’re pleased to be able to welcome Aidan back to the club," McCall told the club's website.

"He’s a very exciting young player who is still just 21 years old so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do in his second spell here.

"We’re trying to build a team that will create a lot of chances for our strikers and Aidan’s certainly a player who fits that profile.

"I don’t really need to tell Thistle fans what he’s all about but suffice to say he’ll be a handful for any full-back he comes up against."

Fitzpatrick is the eighth new arrival at Firhill this summer after Harry Milne, Anton Dowds, Jack McMillan, Aaron Muirhead, Steven Lawless, David Mitchell and Tony Weston agreed moves of thier own.

McCall is still on the lookout for new recruits, though, and a loan deal for Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon is expected to go through in the near future.

The Thistle manager is also in the market for a defender and another wide player.
