Ian Hislop left with head injuries after being hit by electric bike

Private Eye editor Ian Hislop was hit by an electric bike while crossing the road on Wednesday, leaving him needing medical treatment.

The 64-year-old was seen sporting a white bandage after the collision at an event in London on Wednesday evening after the collision.

A spokesperson for the magazine said he had been hit “by an electric bike whilst crossing the road yesterday afternoon”.

However, the TV personality, known for his appearances on the BBC satire show, Have I Got News For You, is said to be “okay” despite the collision.

It comes after the veteran journalist was left showered in glass in an incident in a taxi in October.

There were initially reports that a gunshot had struck the back window of the taxi, close to the Private Eye offices in Soho’s Dean Street, after the driver reported it had been fired at.

But a police investigation established that the October 2 incident was likely as a result of a mechanical fault which caused the window to shatter.

Both the driver and Mr Hislop were not injured in the incident, with a Met Police spokesperson saying the vehicle had been seized for an investigation.

Mr Hislop has been a captain on Have I Got News For You alongside comedian Paul Merton for nearly 30 years.

He has also been editor of Private Eye since 1986, which is famous for its satire, cartoons and in-depth investigations exposing scandals.

He took over the magazine when he was just 26 and in the past, he has been referred to as the “Dalai Lama of Satire”.

He is believed to have become one of the most sued men in English legal history due to the magazine’s coverage frequently attracting legal complaints from the rich and powerful.
