'I wouldn't be surprised' - Bukayo Saka transfer claim made amid Liverpool rumours

Bukayo Saka could be tempted into leaving Arsenal if Liverpool were to come knocking next summer, according to a former Premier League goalkeeper.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the England international as talks over a new deal at the Emirates drag on. Saka is yet to agree a contract extension despite the Gunners being desperate to tie him down to fresh terms. Over the weekend there were reports suggesting they are willing to double his £70,000-per-week wages to remain in north London.

Manchester City, along with Liverpool, have also been touted as possible destinations for Saka, who will not be playing Champions League football next season after Arsenal finished fifth last season. The Gunners, however, have signalled their intent for the 2022-23 campaign with some big-money signings including City duo Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

And ex-Sheffield United and QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny told Football Insider that it's crucial that they finished in the top four next season if they want to keep Saka out of the clutches of the likes of Liverpool.

He said: “I think Arsenal will be going for fourth this season. I like who they have added, Jesus and Zinchenko. I just think he (Saka) isn’t in a major rush to sign. If Arsenal didn’t get into the Champions League this season I wouldn’t be surprised if he is looking for a move.

“He would be looking for a move to a regular Champions League team like Liverpool or Man City, even Chelsea. It would have to be someone who is more or less guaranteed Champions League football. It is a tough one because he still has years left on his deal and whoever comes in will have to pay top dollar.

“He will definitely want to get out if they don’t get into the Champions League, that’s what the club will promise him.”
