Bristol is home to one of the best markets in the country and locals cannot get enough of it. St. Nicholas market is not only the most-loved food spots in the city but it is also the oldest, dating back to the early 18th century when it was established.
In 2016, St. Nicholas market, which is more affectionately known as St. Nicks was named Britain’s best large Indoor Market. Just two years ago, the place was also named among the top 12 in the UK, both great accolades that show the quality the market has and the amount it has to offer.
Home to the largest collection of independent retailers in Bristol, there are over 60 stalls throughout the market offering trinkets and gifts. But its large offerings of food stalls, is the attraction that brings the biggest crowds, so I decided to take a look around at what there was on offer.

The Glass Arcade is probably one of the most popular parts of the market, and definitely the busiest. Home to many permanent food stalls, there is cuisine from all across the world, from your classic British BBQ to Portuguese and Caribbean flavours, and even food for vegans and vegetarians.
Walking through the smells of all the food is enough to make you hungry even if you weren’t before. Here are just a few of the ones that really caught my eye.
Matina
With a long queue that seemed as if it was never going to end, this place seemed very popular among locals. Serving Jurdish wraps with a variety of filling options, lamb, grilled chicken and even halloumi, the food looked absolutely delicious and I saw many walking around with a wrap in hand. It offers a rainbow of colours as I strolled past and was bubbling with activity.
MOMO Bar
While not quite as popular as Matina, MOMO Bar serves traditional Tibetan food, a cuisine not many offer in the city. With a range of dishes available, including a low-carb option for those on a diet, this seems like a great change from the ordinary type place, and they also serve fresh momos that you can have steamed or fried.
Pieminister
This Bristol institution has a cosy branch at the market. Serving up delicious dishes, customers can sit in their small eating area which is adorned with the famous chain's playful logo and low-fitted lantern lighting.
Olive Works
If you’re looking for a lighter lunch or are just a massive salad fan then Olive works might be for you. Serving a range of Mediterranean salads and sides no two orders will look the same and if you like olives then you’re in luck as they have plenty for you to have. Customers can enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean sitting in this spot's white dining area, complete with Greek cushions.
Open from 9.30am to 5pm six days a week, what’s not to love?
