'I've seen him today' - Sean Dyche gives blunt response to surprise Alex Iwobi Everton exit rumours

Sean Dyche has shut down suggestions that Alex Iwobi is unhappy at Everton and says it is 'unlikely' he will leave for Fenerbahce.

The 26-year-old's inconsistent form meant he endured an indifferent start to life on Merseyside after joining the Blues from boyhood club Arsenal during the 2019 summer transfer window. However, he bounced back last season as his side preserved their Premier League status in their penultimate game of the campaign.

But a report from Turkey on Thursday claimed Iwobi was 'unhappy' at Goodison Park under Dyche, who has been tasked with retaining the Blues' ever-present Premier League status after succeeding former manager Frank Lampard at the end of January.

The report by A Spor then further claimed that the Nigeria international could join Jorge Jesus' squad on an initial loan deal until the end of the season as the Turkish transfer window is open until Sunday, March 5.

But when asked, ahead of his side’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, if the claims about Iwobi being unhappy were true, Dyche moved to suggest they were anything but.

He said: “Well I have saw him today and he seems to be quite happy at the moment so I can only go on what my eyes are telling me and what my feeling is telling me.”

And when asked about the prospect of a transfer taking place, the Everton boss replied: “It is unlikely, I would suggest.”

Everton endured a dreadful end to the January transfer window with numerous attempts to strengthen Dyche’s relegation-threatened squad resulting in failure. The lack of activity came after the club’s majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, promised supporters that he would bring in a striker before the window shut.

But Dyche refused to be drawn on whether a lack of activity was now costing his side. He said: “Irrelevant, it is gone. Done.”
