Lush’s fan favourite ‘Sleepy’ lotion has been known to give shoppers their ‘best night’s sleep’ ever, thanks to its soothing lavender fragrance. First launched as a limited edition in 2016, it was added to the permanent collection the following year following demand from customers, and is now available in three sizes.
But there’s no denying that, while Lush’s bath bombs are completely unrivalled - I’m yet to find another brand that wows me - some of their products are on the rather expensive side.

But I’ve found a dupe for the much loved Lush product, and it costs less than a fiver. Meanwhile, Lush stocks three sized tubs of Sleepy, priced at £10 for a small 95g tub, 18 for 215g and £30 for an extra large 440g tub if you can’t get enough of the creamy, insomnia-busting lotion. Sleepy’s calming lotion has earned itself a string of five star reviews and loyal repeat purchasers, with one writing: "Feels luxurious but also absorbs well... It works well as a hand cream and makes my hands feel soft."
As another added: “I bought this after hearing really great things about it. It lived up to my expectations and more. I think the scent is a lovely lavender scent that isn’t too overpowering.” One customer said she ‘smothers herself’ in it before bed.
However, if you don’t want to splurge £10 on a small tub, you can get a 300ml pot of Superdrug’s Vitamin E & Lavender Body Butter for just £4.99. The container is between the sizes of Lush’s medium and large, and would typically cost customers somewhere between £18 and £30, which is a brilliant saving of up to £25.

The lotion is just off white, and smells of relaxing lavender oil, just like Sleepy. After jumping out of the shower, I slathered my arms, legs and décolletage in the butter, which contains one of my favourite ingredients - shea butter. It just makes everything feel so silky. It’s also enriched with naturally sourced Vitamin E with antioxidants which protect the skin from environmental damage and premature skin ageing, which can only be a good thing.
Instantly my skin felt smooth and hydrated, and putting on my fresh new pyjamas was such a treat - a bit like when you shave your legs and then crawl into newly washed sheets.
It was around 9pm when I applied my lavender scented body butter, and by half past, I was looking at the clock wondering if it was too early to go to bed. I decided that, since I’d got up early, it wasn’t and called it a day. Usually I struggle to get to sleep due to a combination of stressors and chronic pain, but almost as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out like a light.
Now, I’m not saying that this is a magic miracle sleep moisturiser, but I am a big believer in creating a healthy sleep routine which sees digital devices shut down well before bed time, fresh pyjamas, avoiding a cuppa before I go to sleep, and now - applying my Superdrug lavender body butter to add a bit of self care and relaxation into my day.

Benefits of the better than £5 body butter are the fact my skin feels amazing, and it’s a snip of the price of Lush’s - but also it did contribute to a better night’s sleep, too, which is something I was very much in need of.
Other shoppers have loved it too, with an average rating of more than four stars.
One customer said: “A good sleep in a cream. I use it most nights after a bath and I can honestly say my skin is hydrated and I feel more relaxed after using it. It’s not too over-scented with lavender, it's just right.”
Another wrote: “This is the best ‘body lotion on a budget’ I have ever used! A very natural-smelling, fragrant yet not overpowering scent, very gentle and highly hydrating formula, and fantastic value for money. It has that rare combination of being extremely moisturising yet non-greasy and fast absorbing.”
