While most youngsters might ask for toys or games consoles for Christmas, one little boy is hoping to find something a bit different under the tree, due to his love for Sellotape. To fulfil her son's wishes on Christmas Day morning, a mum has purchased her nine-year-old Sellotape alongside a stapler to open on the special day.
While the child is said to adore making models from "waste", the woman's husband has slammed their son's gift as "rubbish". Admitting that her little one adores crafting, the woman took to Mumsnet to ask whether she's being unreasonable to gift her son the niche gift despite the backlash.
Captioning the post, she wrote: "My son wants Sellotape for Xmas."
The mum explained: "My nine-year-old son loves Sellotape (and staplers, scissors) and makes 'models' from our junk waste.
"I have saved some interesting junk waste and bought some patterned Sellotape and a staple-free stapler (packaged into a gift box) for Xmas.
"My husband thinks this is (pun) a rubbish gift."
Seeking advice, she wrote: "Am I being unreasonable to give him Sellotape and junk because he will love it? (He has other larger gifts)."
Flocking to the comment section of the viral post, the woman's plea for advice has raked in over 130 comments since posting.
While the woman was initially concerned over the reaction from others, Mumsnet users rushed to praise the "brilliant" idea.
One person gushed: "I think it's brilliant. I love Sellotape. Always have."
A second agreed: "It sounds like a brilliant gift, I think you can get pattern tape too, and fun holders for it."
"No, it’s a great gift. I gave my DS 10, an enormous cardboard box for his birthday - he loves it!" A third replied.
A fourth suggested: "Buy him a multi-pack and make him happy!"
"If it makes him happy who cares what anyone else thinks?" A different user asked. "I used to love getting writing sets at Christmas - no doubt others thought it was naff but I loved writing stories and letters and was very happy!"
A sixth penned: "He'll never forget. You listened and got what he wanted. My son wanted a bottle of maple syrup one year. Just for him.
They added: "We always have it in the house but I bought him a special shaped bottle of it, and he was thrilled."
