'I've been proved right' - Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba slammed by Graeme Souness

Former Liverpool captain Graeme Souness has claimed that he has been proven right regarding his comments about Paul Pogba during his time at Manchester United, as he revealed the exact moment he knew the midfielder was not going to make it.

United spent a then-world record transfer fee of £89million to sign Pogba back in 2016, though many felt his second stint at the club was a disappointment. The 29-year-old went on to lift the Europa League and League Cup over the course of a largely inconsistent return to Old Trafford.

The Frenchman left United on a free transfer for the second time this summer, as he turned down a contract extension at the club. Pogba soon re-signed for Juventus, but is yet to make an appearance for the Italian side after sustaining a pre-season knee injury that resulted in surgery.

Souness never held back on his opinions of Pogba during the midfielder's time in England, and the former Liverpool man has now revealed the exact moment he knew the France international was not going to make it.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "No, I can remember the first time I saw him [Pogba], it was the semi-final of the Champions League, Juventus vs Real Madrid. I was with Jamie Redknapp and Thierry [Henry], Jamie was raving about this young midfielder, wait till you see him. And I came away from the game thinking ‘he’s not for me’. Never has been and I think I’ve been proved right and his time at Manchester United is a unmitigated failure.

"I think Manchester United are a fantastic football club, they really are, one of if not the biggest in the world, glamorous and most successful. Can I just call this out, who was the first person to call out Pogba as a pudding? [co-host Jim White: 'You'] I rest my case."
