I tried the Revolution x Love Island makeup and a £5 product amazed me

Let's be honest, Love Island is a show you either love or hate. Personally, I love the show, which is why I was incredibly excited for the new Revolution X Love Island collaboration.

It’s Revolution’s first exclusive makeup collection in partnership with the show, said to be inspired by ‘summers of love’ in the luxury villa. The tropical themed makeup collection includes eyeshadow palettes, lip glosses, highlighters, brow products and even eau de parfum.

With products ranging from £5 to £15 I wasn’t too sure what to expect in terms of quality, but Revolution have been really impressing beauty fans recently so I didn’t let that affect my opinion. I decided to try four different products from the collection to see if they're worth our money.

The four products I chose were the £6 lip kit, the £12 eyeshadow palette, the £5 highlighter and the £5 brow gel. Here’s my verdict on the new Love Island products.

Love Island x Makeup Revolution Coupled Up Lip Kit Islander

I’m usually pretty lazy when it comes to applying lip products and just whack on some lipstick and go, which is why I was in dire need of this lip kit. It includes crayon liner and a matte liquid lipstick.

I chose the ‘Islander’ shade, which I thought resembled the MAC Cosmetics infamous ‘Velvet Teddy’ ( priced at £17.50 ) a shade I wear virtually every day. The liner went on my lips like butter, and the liquid lipstick was a gorgeous nude shade which looks great with a tan.

One thing I will say though, is that this matte liquid lipstick dries very matte, so if you’re not a fan of matte lipstick be sure to pop some gloss over the top of this. It actually gave my lips a flawless finish, and although matte, it didn’t make my lips look crusty or dry, which is one of the downsides to many matte products.

Love Island x Makeup Revolution I've Got a Text Forever Flawless Eyeshadow Palette

One word, wow. I was so impressed with this palette and for £12 it was an absolute steal. If you can look past the rather cringey shadow names such as ‘banter’ and ‘spooning’ (it is a Love Island palette, after all) then you’ll love this product.

It offers a range of warmer tones of gold and brown with pops of colour like blues and pinks. The shades were so pigmented and easy to blend, but be prepared to add a bit of pressure to the glittery shades with your brush to make them stand out.

You can create a range of different looks with this palette to suit your style, I personally love warmer colours so I have a feeling I’ll be using this palette pretty regularly. I’ve got to give a shout out to the packaging too, because I’m loving the ‘I’ve Got A Text’ casing in the classic Love Island font.

Love Island x Makeup Revolution Highlighter So Lit

I haven’t used highlighter in years, purely because I ran out and I’ve been too lazy to buy some more. This particular shade was called ‘So Lit’ and had a really nice champagne pearlescent shimmer.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but I definitely didn’t think it would be that pigmented. I was glowing after one simple swipe on my cheek!

The highlighter was a gorgeous colour (Emily Sleight/ Liverpool ECHO)

The finish of the highlighter is absolutely gorgeous, and again, looked really nice with a slight tan. I’d really recommend taking this product abroad with you to add a bit of oomph to your makeup look, because this product is dreamy.

Love Island x Makeup Revolution Brow Fix Gel

Run, don’t walk to purchase this brow gel, seriously. I’m very lazy with my brows, and often a little dubious with gels because they can get a bit sticky, but this product was amazing.

This gel worked instantly, within seconds, and is made of some seriously strong stuff. It gave my brows some much needed definition for a ‘clean’ look without making my eyebrows look massive.

I kept the gel on all day and it didn’t budge or flake off one bit. Considering the gel was £5, I actually can’t believe how good it was.
