After a gloriously carb-filled Maccies meal, what better way to finish it off than with an ice-cool dessert? Nothing a McFlurry wouldn’t fix to satisfy anyone’s sweet cravings, undoubtedly.
Personally, I always insist on playing it safe, whereby I always order an Oreo’s McFlurry that does the job time and time again.
This time however, I decided to go against the norm by dipping my toes into the unexpected. My sugary adventure could not have begun at a more ideal time as McDonald’s has now released its Italian summer menu.

Consisting of two brand new burgers, the Italian Snack and the Chicken Italiano, the sought after range also brought back the beloved mozzarella fries, and yes, even a brand new dessert.
With the Taste of Italy menu being the first of two instalments until the arrival of the Taste of Spain and Cyprus menu on July 26, I had to be quick to get my hands on the latest McFlurry.
As my religious restrictions could not permit me to also experiment with the burgers, I have strictly chosen to put the McFlurry to the ultimate test.
As an avid fan and aficionado of all things sugar and sweet, I decided to compare and contrast the new Tiramisu version to the OGs. Will it enthusiastically meet my expectations or will it flop harder than a fish out of water?
The results:
McDonalds’ Tiramisu McFlurry
Upon my first scoop, all I could taste was plain ice-cream and chunks of chocolate biscuit.
Only after multiple spoonfuls did I realise I could taste hints of coffee, which was an utter disappointment. There could have been many ways this McFlurry would stay true to the Tiramisu taste in the form of a McFlurry, but instead it was extremely uninspiring.
To ensure that there was even a coffee flavour to begin with by asking family members to do a quick taste test, to which they were equally as disappointed. Not impressed. 3/10.
McDonalds’ Galaxy Caramel McFlurry
I also attempted the fairly recent addition of McDonald’s Galaxy Caramel McFlurry to compare. With this McFlurry making its debut in 2019, I have yet to try this version and to my surprise- I was overjoyed by the result.
Making up for my disapproval of the Tiramisu McFlurry, this bad boy contained swirls of caramel and chocolate chips which was an absolute delight in the mouth.
I have nothing more to say except that I almost fought tooth and nail with the rest of my family on who could get seconds. 9/10.
McDonald’s Smarties McFlurry
The first of two classic McFlurrys I tried, the Smarties McFlurry has long been a hit, despite not being my personal preference. Nonetheless, I wanted to compare to the newbies and see if the classics had much more to prove in the taste department.
In the end, it still didn’t provide any excitement as I felt I was eating vanilla ice cream in a cup. I couldn’t even taste the Smarties and this may be a controversial opinion. As the kids always say, it just wasn’t giving. 2/10.
McDonald’s Oreo McFlurry
Last, but surely not least, was the Oreo McFlurry. As the crowned king of classics, I had to try it, but in this instance, with the intention of comparing it to the newer additions.
And yet again, soft ice cream and crumbled-up Oreo cookies always seem to work for me. The creaminess balanced with the Oreo crunchiness never fails to tick all the boxes. I’m sold and will forever be sold. 10/10.
Overall verdict
While McDonald’s had made an effort to create an inventive new McFlurry, it did not convince me to switch up my dessert order.
Thankfully my go-to Oreo McFlurry saved the day. Even though I was slightly underwhelmed, I did take a chance on the Galaxy Caramel version which was fairly new in my opinion, and that quickly became my second favourite.
I have nothing to say about the Smarties one, but all in all, I couldn’t be more ecstatic to eat ice-cream for a story- the entire experience was undoubtedly worth the heartbreak of devouring a caffeine-less Tiramisu.
