I tried the new limited edition 'Eton Mess' Baileys and it lived up to the hype

The sun is shining and days are getting longer which gives us all an excuse to sit outside with a summer tipple - cue the new Bailey’s Eton Mess flavour.

Last year, Baileys released its limited edition Pina Colada flavour which was a hit with shoppers, but now, it’s time for the popular summer dessert Eton Mess to shine. The new bottle is priced at £18.99 on The Bottle Club, but I managed to bag one from my local Sainsbury’s for £17 on offer in store.

The bottle size is 70CL with an alcohol percentage of 17% and an Eton Mess flavour made up of meringue and summer berries. Being a big Baileys lover, I was excited to give this limited edition bottle a go.

The Baileys

In terms of aesthetics I couldn’t get over how gorgeous this bottle was. I’m a big fan of anything pink, and the bright eye-catching bottle to me was the definition of summer. I poured the thick pink liquid into a glass with ice and was amazed at its colour. I was intrigued to see whether the Baileys would actually taste like berries, or be washed out by the sheer creaminess of the drink.

After one sip I noticed two things. One, this stuff tastes amazing. Two, it was incredibly strong! Baileys in my opinion is always a little strong on the first sip, but after a couple it was lovely and smooth.

I really liked the fact that the berry flavour was actually noticeable, and not washed out by the alcohol content. With some Irish cream liqueur, the burning alcohol sensation can almost take away the actual flavour of the drink.

I’d definitely say I prefer this variety to the red velvet cupcake flavour, purely because I prefer the berry flavour. As a whole, I’d say this drink is the perfect summer tipple, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea as it’s rather sweet.

The verdict

I was very impressed with the new limited edition Baileys, and not just because of its dreamy bottle. It was the right balance of flavour and liqueur and wasn’t too overpowering.

It went down a treat and was perfectly combined with ice. For £17, it’s a little on the steep side in terms of cost, but considering you only need a small amount at a time, it’s reasonably good value.

Nothing says summer like Eton Mess, and Baileys have hit the nail on the head with their new limited edition flavour. You can find it at The Bottle Club here, or your local Sainsbury’s in store.
