I tried the Boots £8 'hydrating serum' shoppers say 'is the best on the market'

Skincare has recently become a huge thing for me after I majorly suffered with blemish issues a few years back.

If I'm being totally frank, I used to be incredibly lazy with cleansing, toning and moisturising, and only really established a proper routine during the first lockdown. During the pandemic, I really wanted a pampering self-care routine to keep my acne at bay, and I've discovered some amazing products along the way.

Some would say that I'm incredibly naïve when it comes to skincare, and I still even now get overwhelmed with the huge amount of products on offer. There are so many different formulas for various skin types available in the shops, and sometimes I struggle to get my head around them all.

Recently, I've gotten into using serums as an additional extra to my skincare routine, and I've seen a huge difference. It took me a while to pick which serums would work the most for me, so thought I'd try out a cheaper option to begin with.

The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Serum 30ml is priced at £7.99 in Boots and has received a lot of praise from shoppers on the reviews section of the website. Some Boots fans claim that the serum tones down their wrinkles and makes their skin clearer, but did it work for me?

The serum

On the Boots website, the full product description reads: "Working across multiple layers of the skin, this hydrating serum targets dry skin, helping it appear plumped and reduce the appearance of fine lines. This super ingredient is capable of holding 1000x its weight in water. Formulated with multiple molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate different layers of the skin plus a Matrixyl 3000™ peptide, helping it to look more plumped and the appearance of fine lines reduced."

I've been really suffering with insecurities about my fine lines recently - particularly on my forehead, so I wanted to find a product to help minimise them as much as possible. I've been trying to avoid procedures such as Botox to allow myself to age naturally, but there have been so many times when I've been tempted to bite the bullet and get it.

I was really hoping that this £8 serum could be my little miracle in a tub, and all in all, I was relatively impressed with the product. I've been using the serum for just over a month now, and applying a pea-sized amount to my face morning and night along with my other products.

I've also been putting the serum on my neck to target signs of ageing there, which is an area that I often forget about. As a whole, I've definitely noticed a few differences in the appearance of my skin.

The Hyaluronic Acid Serum has made my face appear much more youthful and radiant than it usually would, with a few added extras. As someone that suffers with acne scarring, particularly in the cheek area, the marking almost appears 'blurred'.

I have no idea if that's just sheer coincidence, or whether it's got something to do with the serum, but I'm definitely not complaining. I'm currently waking up in the morning with plumper, softer skin, that doesn't look dry or overtired.

Of course, my big eyebags are still sadly present, but my whole face generally appears brighter and more awake. Boots shoppers have been describing the serum as 'good value for money' and I definitely have to agree in this case.

The verdict

I'd highly recommend grabbing this serum if you're after a relatively quick fix for little money. Admittedly, the difference in my skin isn't groundbreaking, but it's the minor differences that soon add up to really make a difference.

My fine lines are less defined, and my foundation isn't sinking into them as much. The Hyaluronic Acid leaves my skin with a subtle shine in the morning and provides a great base for a full face of makeup.

One negative about the product is how little you get. I've been using this for over a month now and I've had to order another one, so I'd advise purchasing a second tub if you're wanting to fully commit to the product.

This product is working really well for my skin, and I'm definitely going to continue using it. I really want a nice glowy face for the summer, so this is going to be my holy grail product to help provide just that.
