With Pancake Day looming, many of us are preparing for Tuesday March 1 by stocking up on ingredients.
Sometimes however, it’s much easier to purchase the pancakes ready made, to save time and fuss.
Supermarkets are offering their own branded pancakes to make Pancake Day easier.

I purchased a selection of different pancakes without toppings from Aldi, Marks & Spencer, Asda and Lidl to see which ones were best.
Asda maple pancakes
I started off with a pack of four Maple flavoured pancakes from Asda.
Aesthetically, they looked pretty good, with a lovely golden colour and thick fluffy exterior.
After taking a bite, I noticed they were really dry, and would definitely need plenty of toppings.
The consistency of the pancakes were very sticky, but all in all they tasted okay.
I’d definitely recommend having a drink when you’re giving these a try though, because they might get lodged in your throat!
As a whole, the pancakes were tasty and very good value for £1, but a little on the dry side.

Co-op blueberry pancakes
I paid £1 for four blueberry pancakes from the Co-op which was pretty decent value if you ask me.
I’m always a little dubious when it comes to blueberry flavoured things, because sometimes they taste nothing like blueberry.
One bite in and I already had a hunch that these were going to be my favourite out of the bunch.
The pancake flavour was moreish, and tasted just like a buttery sweet blueberry muffin in pancake form.
They were pretty much like velvet, with a really nice moist texture.
You could definitely eat these pancakes on their own if you wanted to, and I did!

Lidl sweet pancakes
These pancakes were different to the others in size, as I couldn’t find any American style ones in my local Lidl.
The sweet pancakes were bigger and thinner, and tasted very sweet.
They were probably the closest out of all of them to actual homemade pancakes, but they didn’t blow me away.
Priced at £1.30 for a pack of eight, they’re good for those who are in a hurry.

Marks & Spencer Buttermilk pancake
I had high hopes for the M&S Buttermilk pancakes, but honestly? They were pretty average.
Understandably, this might have been because I chose to taste them plain with no toppings, but it had to be fair.
They were buttery, yes, but quite boring and dry, and very thick in consistency.
The pack of four pancakes were average to say the least.

M&S Percy pig pancakes
To look at, the Percy Pig pancakes would’ve been nice if they didn’t have a weird brown tone to them.
I feel like the idea of these ‘fun’ pancakes were better than the actual thing.
They were extremely sweet, and tasted like a sickly perfume, and didn’t impress me at all.
Perhaps these would be a good option for kids, but for me, they were just straight up odd.
