Let’s be honest, everybody loves gin, whatever the weather, it’s always a refreshing tipple choice after a long day.
Despite being a gin lover, I’d never actually tried the pink variation, which is surprising considering a) it’s my favourite colour and b) it’s a nice fruity option.
So, what’s the actual difference between pink gin and normal gin? Basically, pink gin contains red or pink fruits like strawberries, raspberries and red currents to give it that pink hue.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, the Pinkster and Mermaid pink gin could be perfect gift options if your significant other likes a gin.
I put both to the test and judged everything from flavour to aesthetics of the bottle, here’s what I found:
Mermaid Pink Gin
Aesthetics wise, the 38% Mermaid Pink Gin from the Isle of Wight Distillery is getting a solid 5/5 for me.
Everything about the bottle felt luxurious, special, something definitely gift worthy for a special occasion.
Priced at £38 on the Mermaid Gin shop, you can also grab a bottle from Amazon and John Lewis.
The look
The bottle itself was absolutely beautiful, it had a feminine touch and a satisfying cork lid which made the best “pop” sound ever.
When poured in a glass with some ice, lemon and tonic, the pinky colour was subtle, but still very much present.
The taste
One word. Delicious.
The Mermaid Pink Gin had incredible fruity undertones and was really smooth to drink (which could be dangerous!)
Each sip was moreish, and when combined with a nice fizzy cool tonic and a hint of lemon it tasted unreal.
This particular gin had much more of a berry taste, so for those who really like fruity flavours, you’re bound to love this.
According to Mermaid Pink Gin, this particular bottle is perfect with a ginger ale or Mermaid Pink & Tonic, garnished with strawberries, fresh mint or a slice of lime.
I just shoved it in a glass with a bit of lemon and ice and still absolutely loved it, so either way, this gin is pretty magical.
My verdict
I’d 100% purchase this gin for myself, let alone a Valentine’s gift! It’s a really smooth gin, it’s incredibly easy to drink and it’s bursting with flavour.
The luxurious taste, combined with the gorgeous bottle, and you’ve got yourself a top quality gin, that’s for sure.
I’m even thinking of keeping the bottle once I’ve finished and adding some bottle lights inside, so it doubles up as home decor too.
Pinkster Pink Gin
Moving onto the Pinkster 37.5% Pink Gin which is ‘made with real raspberries’ and available to purchase on Ocado,
Amazon and directly through their website just in time for Valentine’s Day.
Made with fresh raspberries from their rural Cambridgeshire HQ, the gin is only produced during raspberry cropping season.
The look
Placed in another attractive looking bottle, it’s easy to see why Pinkster is so popular, it’s just the right amount of feminine and classy.
The satisfying cork pop and pour is a triumph, and you can see just how smooth this gin is instantly.
The taste
This gin is definitely a lot sweeter than the Mermaid Gin, possibly because of the raspberries, but that’s definitely not a bad thing.
If your other half has a sweet tooth, this could be a great option, with again, very moreish tendencies.
For me, it doesn't possess a strong berry taste than the Mermaid gin, but it still gives that sweet tantalising taste on the tip of your tongue.
My verdict
I’m giving this gin a 4/5 purely because it was a little too sweet for me, but it’s all down to personal preference!
I really enjoyed the smoothness of the gin, making it incredibly easy to drink.
The aesthetics of the bottle make it ideal for a gift or a special occasion, with the subtle pink hue for a pop of colour.
