Bershka, Zara’s younger sister store has finally arrived at Liverpool One, so I thought I’d put their sizing to the test.
Being reasonably curvaceous yet small in height means it can be really disheartening when trying on clothes, especially in places like Zara where I struggle to even fit into a size large. Of course, it’s very easy to get caught up in sizes of clothes, but as a woman I have to tell myself sizes are always going to be different.
We all know that gut wrenching feeling of trying on an outfit in our usual size and it not fitting properly (and don’t even get me started on changing room lighting.) I decided to put Bershka to the test, owned by Spanish clothing retailer Inditex, to see what was on offer in terms of size, quality and aesthetic.

I tried on four different outfits in the store, some were way out of my comfort zone, others felt more comfortable. One thing I will say is that the sizing confused me, here’s what I found.
Outfit 1 - Sleeveless lace-up knit top with rhinestones & wide leg satin trousers
The glittery detail of the lace up rhinestones really drew me to this top, but I was a little apprehensive about sizing. I went for a large to play it safe as the other clothes I’d tried on were fairly accurate.
It actually fitted really well on me, although it was slightly tight around the chest area I could definitely get away with it. The quality of the top was nice and thick and it most certainly didn’t feel cheap at all.
Let’s just talk about the trousers though, because shock horror, I ended up choosing a size medium and it actually fit me. Thank the lord for elastic waistbands, but considering I was a large in all the other outfits, I was a little flabbergasted.
One thing I will say though, is that these trousers were pretty see through at the back, which isn't a very good look. All in all, I was pretty impressed with this outfit although it’s not something I’d usually wear.

Outfit 2 - Terry mini dress with a gathered centre
Eek, bodycon is not my friend, but I took one for the team here to check out if the quality was worth it. Turns out I was incredibly surprised and impressed.
I went for a size large and I’m glad I did, because this dress was very snug. I wasn’t too sure on the material that sort of resembled a towel, but the dress itself had really nice thick good material.
I’m not entirely sure if I’ve got the full confidence to rock this, but I was really impressed with the quality and sizing of the dress. Considering this is a bodycon dress I was shocked at how much I didn’t mind it.

Outfit 3 - Long satin dress with chain strap detail
This particular dress was really out of my comfort zone, because anyone with a bit of a belly will know how risky a satin dress can be! I decided to go for a size large and I really don’t think it flattered me at all.
Firstly, the colour just wasn’t great on me in my opinion, the material clung to some parts of my body, but was baggy on others. I’ve always had a bit of a love hate relationship with satin dresses, but the style and sizing of this one just didn’t do it for me.
Quality wise though? The satin was lovely and thick and not too flimsy like you find with some items of clothing, so fair play to Bershka.

Outfit 4 - Blazer dress with shirred detail
Honestly? This was probably my favourite outfit out of them all, it fit really well and wasn’t too tight, or too baggy. I absolutely loved the colour as I have a bit of an obsession with green at the moment, and it comes as no surprise that a size 10/12 is classed as a large.
As far as sizing and quality goes though, this felt really good, so hats off to Bershka. This is definitely the kind of outfit you can dress up or down depending on the occasion, and I thought it was quite flattering.
