'I tried new Domino's menu item and they tasted just like stuffed crusts'

A menu item so popular that Twitter fans staged a campaign to bring them back has relaunched at Domino’s this month. Now, takeaway fans can enjoy the much-loved Twisted Dough Balls once more.

The pizza chain is frequently updating their menu to keep it seasonal and fresh, which means now and then, some items are temporarily taken off the menu. But there was uproar on social media at the removal of the twisted dough balls , a menu item first seen in 2012 - with the account @ ohdoughballs tweeting daily for 147 days to see them put back on the menu.

Twisted Dough Balls are little balls of fresh dough twisted with mozzarella and they sounded so good, I had to order some for myself. After all, I’d had a Domino’s promotional leaflet posted through the door and frankly, it’d be rude not to.

I ordered my usual Meateor pizza - a BBQ base with cheese, pepperoni, ground beef, smoked bacon, sausage and pork meatballs. Heading to the ‘sides’ tab, I had the option to pick cheese or pepperoni twisted dough balls. Naturally, I went for cheese.

I added an extra garlic and herb dip to my order, which tipped me just over the £30 mark, getting me 50 per cent off my pizza. Usually, shoppers only get half off their pizza when spending £50, so it was nice to see the spend threshold reduced.

As the £4.99 dough balls and dip weren’t reduced, my total came to around £18.50, and would feed me and my partner - with a slice or two left over for lunch the next day. Who doesn’t love leftover pizza?

My order arrived and I tucked straight into the mouth-watering mozzarella filled dough balls to discover it was essentially a box of stuffed crusts. Usually, I save the best until last and save all my stuffed crusts to dip in the garlic and herb sauce at the end.

But the new dough balls meant I could enjoy their cheesy goodness between slices without feeling the need to save them until the end. Like with anything at Domino’s, they’re perfectly paired with the Garlic and Herb dip, and are almost too good to share.

Domino’s said: “Every store will be home to the cheesy classic but if you’re lucky then yours gets the truly twisted Pepperoni and Ham infused stars of the Domino’s side menu.” The twisted dough balls can be found online under ‘sides’ .

Be sure to check the deals tab and select the 50% off when you spend £30 deal, which will give you half off any full sized pizza. If the money doesn’t automatically come off at the checkout, shoppers can add the promotional code ‘FEEDME50’.

You can also order through the Domino’s app for Android or iOS – it’s always looking out for you by finding all the latest deals in your area. The app also makes group ordering super easy, as you can send a group invite to your friends and they can select everything their stomach desires and ping them straight to your phone.

The offer is also the perfect excuse to treat your mum to a Mother's Day takeaway this weekend.
