'I tried McDonald's brand new Chicken Big Mac and it's a game changer'

It's a brand new day for McDonald's fans as they can now try out the Chicken Big Mac which landed on menus in Scotland today.

The arrival of the limited-edition burger comes after the fast-food giant decided to make major changes to their menus, which also included returning favourites such as the Chicken Legend.

Experts over at the fast-food giant cooked up a brand new variation of their iconic burger and gave it a new twist for customers to tuck into.

To be fair, the Big Mac has had a few variations over the years, including the popular Double Big Mac which also made its grand return from today.

But, this is the first time it has ever been made with crispy chicken patties instead of beef which makes it a brand new experience for customers everywhere.

The new burger officially arrived on menus across Scotland today (Rachel Williams)

Billed as an "exciting new twist!" on the original burger, McDonald's has said the new Big Mac is their 'most anticipated' item and, quite frankly, we think that's a pretty big statement.

Which is why our reporter Rachel Williams decided to tuck into the new burger to see if it really lives up to the hype the Golden arches have been selling us.

Here is what she thought of the new burger after she got it delivered...

Presentation

The presentation was not the best, but it certainly tasted good (Rachel Williams)

First things first, let's talk about the presentation of the burger shall we?

It might not sound like a huge thing but - let's all be honest here - one of the first things that can either give a good or bad first impression is the presentation of the burger itself.

The first thing that I noticed was this new burger comes complete with a new sleek blue box and the burger looks and smells pretty much like a regular Big Mac.

Now, as nice as this burger looks, I'll be completely honest and say that this can be a little bit of a mess and tends to fall completely apart once you take it out of the box. It doesn't exactly look like the adverts.

I mean, to give some credit, most takeout burgers do tend to fall to pieces with bits of lettuce and garnish falling out all over the place, so in that respect it's really no difference.

The burger

The chicken works better with the sauce when compared to the beef patties (Rachel Williams)

Lets get to the main part, the very thing that you are all here for and want to know about...

Is the new Chicken Big Mac worth it?

Let me tell you something, from the taste alone it absolutely is worth all the hype and I am genuinely surprised that this is not something that has been on the menu sooner.

I'll be completely open and admit that I am not the biggest fan of a Big Mac - it's not that I dislike it at all, it's just that my regular order from McDonald's is usually a Chicken Legend or nuggets, so this was a welcome change for me.

The idea of swapping the thin beef patties with two succulent chicken patties is an absolute game-changer because the original burger patties can occasionally be on the thin side.

These chicken patties give a crispy crunch to the burger that you don't get with the original and I'm not sorry to admit that the chicken works better with that iconic sauce.

One of the defining things about the Big Mac is the sauce, it's pretty iconic at this point, and the chicken and the sauce work together really well to give you a mouth-watering delight.

Now can it all be this positive?

Well, I'll admit that it could have used just a bit more cheese as it only comes with one slice - I know, it's blasphemy for such a 'Big' burger to only come with one slice - but, the sauce made up for it and made sure there was no dryness.

Overall thoughts

It's a thumbs up from me (Rachel Williams)

9/10 - I'll be absolutely honest by saying that I think that this might be one of my more favourite items and I can see it being pretty popular.

Dodgy presentation aside, so I marked it down a point, it tastes really good and it really does live up to the hype of bringing an "exciting twist" to the original Big Mac by using chicken patties.

But is it better than the original beef Big Mac?

For me? Absolutely.

Maybe it's because I tend to gravitate towards chicken based food, but I think the Chicken Big Mac is more substantial and tastier than the original burger.

Please don't hurt me Big Mac Fans - just give this a go, as I think that it may sway quite a few die-hard fans.

Quite frankly, I'm a little upset the Chicken Big Mac is currently only going to be available for a limited time, as I think it deserves to stay on the menu.
