I tried Lush's new £12 'sleep' candle to help tackle my insomnia

Like many people, I’ve been a long-time fan of high street cosmetics store, Lush.

When the popular retailer; famed for its handmade bath bombs, its cruelty free makeup, skincare, shampoos and more, announced it was adding candles to its extensive product line-up, I was delighted. Who wouldn't want their home to smell like a Lush store?

I'm a little bit of a Monica Gellar when it comes to my home; I like it to be neat, organised and clean. I always feel a little more stressed or anxious when my house is messy - which, being the owner of a delightfully chaotic rescue dog - does happen more often than I'd like.

I'm also paranoid about my house smelling like said rescue dog - I adore him, but I don't want my house to smell of him. I'm always on the hunt for fresh smelling cleaning products and I'm quite the fan of a scented candle.

Being a bit of a Lush fanatic, I eagerly snapped up one of the retailer's new candles in its Sleepy fragrance, which is designed to promote rest and calm. Each candle is poured into a cute little frosted glass jar, which could easily be repurposed once the candle has burned out.

The candle base is made up of rapeseed wax, coconut oil, coconut wax, and castor wax. They also remain palm, paraffin, soy-free, and are 100% vegan - so they tick a lot of boxes.

They're made with the brand's best-selling fragrances and offer a burn time of approximately 12-15 hours. There's three fragrances to choose from; Orange Blossom, The Olive Branch and Sleepy.

I chose Sleepy because I'm a raging insomniac and spend most of my time closely resembling a zombie, so any products aimed at alleviating sleep troubles go straight in my basket. The fact the candle is a cute, on-trend purple colour was an added aesthetically-pleasing bonus.

The fragrance is delightful and almost identical to Lush's Sleepy bath and body care products, which I'm also a big fan of. I tend to light this candle for an hour or so before going to bed to try and promote a calming sanctuary while creating a relaxing routine to help my struggle to sleep.

It fills my bedroom with sweet, calming ylang ylang oil and notes of lavender and tonka. It's a dreamy, gorgeous fragrance that really does make me feel more relaxed.

Even if you're not looking for a scented candle for the purposes of relaxation, this scent is so beautiful, I'd definitely recommend purchasing it or one of the other candles in Lush's range.

The candles cost £12 each, which I think it pretty reasonable for such a lovely and high performing product. It's my aim to have at least one in every room of my house.
