It's no secret that this summer has been absolutely sweltering from the onset. And in the name of preparation, I've had my sights set on Dyson's HushJet Mini Cool Fan (here from Amazon). The brand reputation and admittedly sleek form were enough to convince me to test the fan out.
A hard-working, good-looking portable fan is at the top of my list of things to buy before a heatwave. But is the Dyson HushJet worth it? I tested it through the start of London's summer to see how it fares — and my verdict? It does live up to the hype.
And, I guess, don't just take my word for it. As I write this review, it's very hot out, so unsurprisingly, Dyson's HushJet Mini is sold out pretty much everywhere in the UK (except for this cool Ink/Cobalt version at Dyson), though available for preorder on Amazon. It is still available to buy from Amazon if you live in the US, though. If you want something urgently now (for which I don't blame you at all), I've also tested Shark's ChillPill, which I rated highly, and also discounted for Amazon's Prime Day right now.
But, back to the HushJet Mini — before you decide on whether this portable fan is a fit for you, and preorder it, here's what you should know.

The HushJet Mini is an especially good investment if you tend to get hot easily and need something more advanced than a humble folding fan on holiday. And if you want to explore a deeper or brighter color, the Ink / Cobalt and Carnelian / Sky styles should be back in stock soon.
Is the Dyson HushJet Mini Good Quality?
I'm not one for Dyson slander when it comes to quality. And the HushJet is no exception. At just 212g, it's a high-powered fan that is heavy enough to feel well-made, but light enough to comfortably tote on vacation or on sunny days out.
As far as gadgets to help you feel cool during a heatwave, the HushJet effortlessly makes a case for cooling yourself down without losing out on style points. But how powerful is the airflow?
How Does the Dyson HushJet Mini Hold Up in the Heat?
The Dyson HushJet's airflow is on par with its style. It works extremely hard to offer comfort on balmy summer days. With five speed settings, you can operate on the lowest for six hours. And at a maximum of one hour, when continuously set to the highest speed.
It's one of my hacks for spending time in the heat more comfortably. But I will admit that the higher settings on the fan aren't as quiet as the low hum on speeds one and two. However, if you ask me, it's a small price to pay to cool yourself off quickly.
How Does the Dyson HushJet Mini Rank on Style?
The Dyson HushJet design was the first characteristic to draw my attention. And you know only aesthetically-led objects get the Livingetc stamp of approval. While the actual head of the fan does feel slightly extra-terrestrial in its design, I find that it lends to the cool factor of the HushJet.
Additionally, the base itself feels sleek in its matte metallic finish. And in just 10 days of testing, I have already received a couple of compliments and queries around it.
Is the Dyson HushJet Mini Worth It?
At about £100, I would say that the Dyson HushJet is worth it. It feels like a long-lasting investment, and it's one of the more chic portable electric fans I've come across of late.
Especially, if you want a light-weight electric fan to carry on holiday, or while you're sunning yourself at one of the cool London hotels with pools, this is a sleek, design-forward option that should be on your radar.

If you want a fan that does more than just offer steady cool air, the Shark ChillPill comes with a misting attachment and cooling plate.

If you don't get too hot, and all you need is a quick breeze, this USB Travel Fan from M&S is another stylish summer accessory.

Another space-conscious, beautiful cooling accessory is this folding fan from H&M.
All in all, a portable fan should be on your summer travel packing list. And I dare you to find one that looks better than this launch from Dyson.
