I must say that whilst I love to eat, I don’t necessarily love to cook.
Hours of manual kitchen labour isn’t my idea of a great time and I usually find myself getting distracted by other tasks around the house - then, just like magic, you’ve burnt the lasagne Brijiena!
So I decided to try my hand at one of the popular food subscription services in the UK, HelloFresh .
Excitingly, I even got to try out an exclusive recipe which is the Fillet Steak and Blue Cheese sauce with Rosemary fries. The brand will be releasing this as a premium offering for Father’s Day and trust me, you’re going to love it!
And for those of you who are like me and unable to stay focused in the kitchen, I tried out a super simple recipe that's perfect for al fresco dining - and only took me around 20 minutes.
My HelloFresh box arrived on time, I was given a prompt two hour delivery slot on the morning of delivery and it came within the allocated slot.
Everything was really well packaged, including meat separate from the vegetables and adequately lined with frozen bags.
I also liked how every ingredient for each meal was in a numbered bag - so there's no way to confuse anything.
The best thing about HelloFresh is that each ingredient is carefully pre-portioned for the amount of people that will be eating. In my case it was two, so everything was the perfect amount for both of us.
First up was the Fillet Steak and Blue Cheese sauce with Rosemary fries.
This meal will soon be the premium offering for Father's Day this year and it's not hard to see why.
The steaks were amazingly tender and good quality. Making the cheese sauce was one of my favourite parts of prep, I also managed to sneak a little bit of Brie into the sauce for an extra tangy and cheesy kick.
It was accompanied by rosemary fries and sauteed seasonal veg, which honestly went down a treat together.
All in all it took around 40 minutes including food prep, until we were eating.
I'd give this HelloFresh meal a strong 9.5 out of 10.
I also tried out a perfect contending meal, this time it was a vegetarian friendly menu and I was super happy to hear it'd only take me 20 minutes.
I tried the Creamy Pesto Pasta, which in my opinion is going to be one of my new favourite lunch ideas for summer.
If you wanted to you could add meat or fish to the dish, but I quite enjoyed how light I felt after the veggie option, which is something I always tend to think about with warmer weather on the way.
Simple but effective, this is a meal you could make a huge pot of and prep it for lunch or dinner the next few days. I also wouldn't say no to eating it cold the day after.
I'd give this meal a strong 8 out of 10 rating.
What I loved the most about HelloFresh was how easy everything was to make from stat to finish. Easy recipe cards made prep much easier to follow and I didn't get that flustered feeling in the kitchen that I usually do.
Another reason I loved it is because nothing went to waste. I'm very conscious about food waste and HelloFresh made that all the more simple thanks to pre-portioning everything for me.
