Uppeal 2 Leg Desk review: Stand, sit or floor sit

An angled shot showing the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk at its lowest height with a multi-monitor setup.

The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk immediately sets itself apart by doing something that no other electric standing desk can. Besides the typical standing or sitting heights, this desk goes low enough to the ground that you can actually sit on the floor while using it. This gives you an additional way to work and broadens its appeal to a wider range of people.

Even without the ability to floor sit, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is a well-built and a very minimal standing desk that will look great in any home office. It comes in three sizes to account for different workspaces and there are multiple desktop and frame color options to match the rest of your home office decor.

The extra range of motion the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk offers does come at a high price but unlike with other premium standing desks, you can use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to help offset its price, at least if you live in the U.S. I have a few other minor gripes besides its higher price but for the most part, this is a unique and stylish desk you’ll be able to use for years to come, thanks to its 10-year warranty.

My Uppeal 2 Leg Desk will help you decide if this is the best standing desk for you and whether or not the ability to floor sit while using it justifies its higher price.

Uppeal 2 Leg Desk: Cheat Sheet

  • What is it? A dual-motor electric standing desk with an advanced frame that lets it go even lower to the ground.
  • Who is it for? People who want even more flexibility when it comes to how they work as this desk lets you sit, stand or floor sit.
  • What does it cost? The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk starts at $1,099 but depending on the desktop size and material you choose, it can go as high as $1,399. Alternatively, you can buy the desk frame on its own for $899.
  • What do we like? Its clean and minimalistic look, how easy it is to assemble, that it comes in multiple colors and configurations, how low the desk can go to the ground, its four-stage legs and that Uppeal is trying something different.
  • What don’t we like? Having the flexibility to sit, stand or floor sit can be quite expensive, the keypad works a bit differently compared to the others I’ve used and the desk can get quite noisy when adjusting its height.

Uppeal 2 Leg Desk: Specs

Uppeal 2 Leg Desk: The ups

Being able to sit on the floor while using an actual desk instead of a coffee table is the main reason one might consider the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk over other standing desks. However, its simple assembly process and excellent build quality are some of its other strengths.

Quick and simple assembly

Building your first standing desk can be somewhat intimidating but Uppeal makes the process very straightforward with clear directions and excellent diagrams in its instruction manual. I’ve built a lot of different standing desks over the years and even after all this time, the Vari Electric Standing Desk remains the gold standard when it comes to assembly. However, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk isn’t that far behind.

Uppeal claims you can put this desk together in less than 15 minutes but it took me closer to 30. Granted, I was taking pictures throughout, but what slowed me down is that there are a lot more screws and bolts than with Vari’s desk. Everything arrived well packaged and once the frame was put together, attaching it to the desktop was fairly easy. You will need to bring your own screwdriver though.

Since the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk can go so much lower to the ground than other standing desks, this makes the whole assembly process a lot easier. I put this desk together on my own but as always, you should have a friend or family member there to help, especially when you flip it over for the first time.

The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk has a keypad with four height presets you can program to your liking. However, if you’re upgrading from another standing desk, it works in a slightly different way than you might expect. There’s no memory button to save your presets and instead, you need to press one of the numbered buttons four times in a row to do so. To have the desk adjust to one of your height presets, you need to press and hold the number it’s assigned to. This threw me off at first but if you have children, you won’t have to worry about accidental presses from them as this motion is more deliberate.

Not your average standing desk

If you take a look through the specs on our standing desk guide, most desks can only go as low as 25 inches, with the FlexiSpot E7 Pro being the exception at 22.8 inches. The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk on the other hand has a minimum height of 15.71 inches. This gives you the ability to work while seated on the floor, while kneeling and of course, while seated in one of the best office chairs or while standing. Part of the appeal (no pun intended) of standing desks is that they allow you to move more throughout the day since you can work from different positions. With the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk though, you have two more options that you won’t find anywhere else.

Besides this added flexibility, Uppeal also makes the case in a blog post that there are health benefits to be had from floor sitting including improved circulation and better flexibility. Just like with standing while working, floor sitting certainly takes some getting used to. While testing the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk, I would work my way through each of the positions, starting on the floor, then in a chair and finally standing up before starting this routine all over again. Whether or not floor sitting will be beneficial (or even comfortable) for you is something you’ll have to find out on your own.

For me personally though, I felt and even enjoyed (after a while of course) the stretch in my hips that sitting on the floor using this desk provided. A word of warning: if you have pets, go with a desktop color option that’s different from your furry one. My Labrador was in the process of shedding his summer coat while I tested the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk with a white desktop and after sitting on the floor for extended periods, my desk had as much pet hair on it as it did work from home accessories.

High-quality components throughout

Whether you’re working on the floor or standing, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is very stable. Even at its highest position, it remained firmly in place when I shook it. The reason for this is that Uppeal uses excellent components throughout. Though I initially had it set up with the Mac mini M2 and then the Mac mini M4, for my final desk setup, I put together a multi-monitor configuration with both displays clamped to the back of the desk and one of the best mini PCs underneath a desk shelf.

One thing that really stood out to me regarding its design is that Uppeal went with 4-stage legs. Typically, cheaper desks like the Fezibo Electric Standing Desk (our current budget pick) use 2-stage legs while more expensive desks like the Secretlab Magnus Pro (one of the best gaming desks) have 3-stage legs. The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk has 4-stage legs for two reasons: they give the desk a much wider range of motion so you can sit on the floor and they provide better stability.

Though I can’t attest to the quality of the bamboo or black bamboo desktops as I didn’t try them out, they look great in pictures and could be a good choice if you want to give your desk a more unique look. Regardless of which desktop you choose, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk can hold a maximum of 250 pounds. I liked the feel of my white desktop which has an almost recycled-like plastic finish to it. However, I did manage to scratch it when unboxing the Apple Studio Display that Apple sent over along with the Mac mini M4. Since its finish is more like plastic than laminate though, I should be able to buff out that minor scratch on its surface.

Uppeal 2 Leg Desk: The downs

The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk has a lot going for it besides the fact that you can sit on the floor while using it. However, its specialized frame and 4-stage legs drive up its price and during testing, it was on the noisier side when switching between height presets.

Fast but noisy adjustments

In addition to a wider range of motion and improved stability, Uppeal went with 4-stage legs as they allow its 2 Leg Desk to go from a seated position to a standing one even faster. This was true in my testing and it took just over seven seconds to switch between my preferred seated and standing heights. Unfortunately though, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is also quite loud when changing orientations.

Just like I did when I reviewed the Acemagic F2A mini PC, I used my trusty sound level meter to see just how loud it was. The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk got as loud as 65 db while adjusting its height. To put this in perspective, I tested the noise levels of the other standing desks around my house and the Vari Curve Electric Standing Desk hit 53 db while the Maguns Pro was at 50 db when adjusting its height.

This could certainly be a one off and that extra noise could come down to a bad part or a mistake I made during assembly but it’s still something to keep in mind. Granted though, with a desk like this one, it’s more likely you would be using it at home where you can make a bit more noise as opposed to in an office.

Being grounded doesn’t come cheap

Quality standing desks with excellent build quality don’t come cheap but the specialized frame used in the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is the reason behind its higher price. On its own, the frame itself costs $900 and I would reason that its 4-stage legs are the culprit. I haven’t actually seen these types of legs before and most of the desks I’ve tested have 3-stage legs, though the Vari Essential Electric Standing Desk I reviewed did have 2-stage legs.

Even though the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is on the expensive side compared to the competition, there is a bit of a silver lining here. For starters, you can offset its higher price by using funds from your HSA or FSA in the U.S. Likewise, it does come with a 10-year warranty which means you should be able to use it reliably for years to come.

Uppeal 2 Leg Desk: Verdict

The Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is a unique electric standing desk in an increasingly crowded market. No other desk (at least that I know of) goes low enough that you can sit on the floor if you don’t want to sit in a chair or stand up while working. In fact, there are few solutions for people who prefer to sit on the floor but still want to get some work done. If you fall into that category, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk is an easy recommendation. For others, its higher price could be a deal breaker. Although you probably won’t need to move your desk that often if at all, this desk would be a cinch to get through any doorway without having to disassemble it first.

If two legs isn’t enough for you, Uppeal also makes a 4-leg and an L-shaped standing desk too. Still, the Uppeal 2 Leg Desk thoroughly impressed me during my time with it and I look forward to seeing where the relatively new company goes from here.
