'I tried a defrosting hack that gets rid of icy car windows in under three minutes'

No one particularly loves getting up early in the morning, whether you need to get ready for work or wake the kids for school.

However, this task becomes even more frustrating when you are faced with defrosting your car.

With heavy snow, sleet and freezing temperatures hitting the country this week, I tried an amazing hack that allows you to get rid of frosty windows in under three minutes.

When I first heard about this trick, I thought it couldn’t possibly work as well as it did because it was so simple - and it can be done from inside your car.

Start off by making sure your windows are clear of snow. Normally, we don’t get much of it in Ireland, so this usually won’t be a problem.

Then hop inside your car and turn on your heaters. While this won’t be the quickest way to defrost your windshield, it helps to start the process.

This is a great way to avoid getting wet while splashing water across your car’s windows or landing yourself with freezing fingers trying to scrape ice from your windshield.

The lesser known hack that will half this process, all lies in your sunscreen protectors.

We don’t get much use of these in Ireland, but it turns out they have multiple functions.

By pulling your sunscreen protectors down and away from your face, you stop the warm air from flowing upwards and away from your windows.

The hotter air won’t be cooled down as quickly when it mixes with the cold air from the other parts of your car. Instead, it is pushed down towards your frozen windshield again.

This is a great way to speed up the defrosting process and I found that instead of waiting six to seven minutes for the windows to defrost, I was able to set off and drive in under three minutes.

It is also the perfect way to warm yourself up in the car, while also defrosting your icy windshield.
