A man who chose to take his wife's surname after marriage has spoken of why the couple chose to subvert tradition, and hit back at suggestions he was 'emasculated'.
Alastair Tansley - formerly Livesley - said taking his wife Phoebe's surname was a 'no-brainer' after she expressed a 'strong emotional connection' to it as she lost her parents at a young age. Al said he realised he didn't feel the same about his surname, and had other things that bonded him to his family.
The pair had discussions about the issue after Al proposed at their south Manchester home in October 2020, and Phoebe made it clear that her surname was part of her identity and she didn't want to lose it, reports The Mirror.
