'I thought it was a cold then I dropped to five stone - my husband left me over my skeletal frame'

Weighing just five stone, Jeane Trend-Hill is used to hearing hurtful comments from strangers - from being told to "go and eat a few burgers" to being asked if she is on drugs. The 55-year-old's spine and ribs are visible and she can only wear children's clothes.

Jeane, from London, saw her life change for the worse in 2012 when she thought she had caught a simple cold that wouldn't budge. However, it turned out to be an incurable health condition called colitis (an inflammation of the lining of the colon) which is an autoimmune disorder that she's battled against for the past 10 years. It has left her a shadow of her former self; a social butterfly who worked as an actress and a photographer.

Now Jeane has shared how it has changed her life forever, as her condition caused Jeane's weight to plummet, saw her husband leave her, and left her needing to use a wheelchair. "I feel as though I've been through a living hell over the past decade, from something that started so innocently, it went on to change my life irreparably," she said.
