'I thought for a minute' - Ally McCoist and Laura Woods react to sex noise prank on BBC before Liverpool game

Ally McCoist couldn't contain himself as he and Laura Woods described the sex noise prank that aired prior to Liverpool's win over Wolves.

Harvey Elliott's brilliant first-half strike was the difference as the Reds picked up their first win of 2023 moving into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

Former Liverpool midfielders Paul Ince and Danny Murphy were in the studio with Gary Lineker presenting but it wasn't their punditry that had social media talking.

A prankster had stuck a mobile phone in the studio and set a sex noise as the ringtone before rudely interrupting the pre-match coverage of the Third Round replay.

To their credit, Lineker and the pundits managed to save face by continuing with their analysis but the BBC presenter wasn't afraid to relate to the joke throughout the coverage.

Discussing the events that unfolded the night before, McCoist and Woods spoke about the talking point. As a result, the former Scotland international couldn't contain his laughter.

He said: "Well handled. I thought for a minute, I wasn't too happy because I was actually at a Pink Floyd tribute concert but that's another story, I saw the highlights of it and I'm looking at Gary [Lineker], I know Danny Murphy's in the studio that's unbelievable because in ITV, we only get a cup of tea and a roll don't we?

"I'm thinking they have the time of their lives there, Danny's having the time of his life. ITV you get a cup of tea and a sandwich and they're getting added perks like that, that's incredible."

The talkSPORT presenter continued and tried her hand at explaining the ordeal. "There will be people listening going 'what?' So I tell you what I'm going to hand over to Ally McCoist to describe what happened."

The 60-year-old replied: "I hope you're not going to play it! Sadly, I've never heard that, I've never that kind of sounds in my life - only time I've heard is on the phone."

Millions quickly took to Twitter and other various social media platforms to explain their disbelief that such a thing was broadcast. "It was the top of the show, the FA Cup Third Round replay, Gary Lineker was hosting, it was Wolves against Liverpool. Danny Murphy was in mid-flow with explaining his thoughts on football.

"Do you know when someone pranks you and says 'open that, turn the volume really loud' and it's a women enjoying herself really loud... sexually...

"Enjoying herself?" McCoist replied. "She was having the time of her life, nevermind enjoying herself, man... Brilliant, genius. I mean that is genius, the thought about that."

The former Rangers midfielder, who features as a pundit and commentator on BBC, Amazon Prime, BT Sport as well as talkSPORT, was baffled by the noise itself.

"Did they try talk over it? There was no talking over that lady, no, she was on a different planet. I know this probably isn't the show for it but what brings that on? Is it a move?" He joked.
