Halloween is getting closer and many local farms are offering a 'pick your own pumpkin' experience for fans of spooky season.
Claremont Farm in Bebington, Wirral offers families a fun pumpkin picking experience priced at £1 per kg of pumpkins. Each pumpkin has an individual cap of £6 each (for the enormous ones) with some even weighing over a whopping 12kg.
I've always wanted to go pumpkin picking, but I was a little put off by the price of the experience. After visiting Claremont Farm and picking up two big pumpkins and a smaller one, I have to admit it was worth every penny.

The pumpkin picking
As soon as I entered the car park it was very clear to see just how popular pumpkin picking at Claremont Farm is. At 11am on a Sunday the car park was already practically full, and it even had stewards guiding people into car parking spots.
The excitement was real, and although there were a lot of families with children enjoying the experience, I didn't feel left out or odd enjoying the pumpkin picking - it was definitely for all ages. The pumpkin patch was filled to the brim with brightly coloured pumpkins, all differing in size and shape.
The amount of pumpkins on offer was mind-blowing, and there was even a few white 'ghost pumpkins' (the white ones) on offer if you looked hard enough. At the start of the field was a perfect Instagram opportunity, with a rustic 'welcome to the pumpkin patch' sign on some bales of hay.
If I had to describe the experience in one word, I'd say 'wholesome'. It was so lovely to see families and small children having a laugh and getting competitive trying to sniff out the best pumpkin.
There were plenty of Instagram opportunities, with some even dressing up their babies or pets in adorable Halloween costumes. A new addition this year was the 'caution keep out' shed which contained a few spooky props. It's small touches like this that really made the experience a memorable one.
In total, I ended up spending around £13 pound for four pumpkins, which I know sounds like a lot, but my first pumpkin was absolutely massive. You know those 'monster pumpkins' you see in supermarkets for around £3? My pumpkin was about double the size of a 'monster' one.
With no entry charge, the pumpkins are priced at 80p per kg. Cash and card is accepted and wheelbarrows are also available for those who have gone a bit pumpkin mad.
The verdict
I was really happy to pay £13 not just for the four pumpkins, but the general experience too. Pumpkin picking is a lot more interesting than popping one in your trolley from your local supermarket, and I'd urge anyone to give it a go if you haven't already.
Claremont Farm has so much more to offer than just pumpkins, with an idyllic farm shop selling local fresh goods, a café and even a seafood shack with a range of fresh fish on offer.
It might be worth bringing some boxes or bags along with you to carry your pumpkins with ease, and I'd definitely recommend wellies and waterproofs with the unpredictable British weather.
Pumpkins are also available ready picked in the farm shop if you don't fancy visiting the pumpkin patch. You can find Claremont Farm at Old Clatterbridge Road, Bebington, Wirral CH63 4JB.
