A woman has been left heartbroken after her partner rehomed her cats without letting her say goodbye - but people are on his side.
The couple of two years live together in the man's house.
So when his girlfriend found six kittens abandoned on the side of the road, there was only one person she needed to talk to before bringing them home.
Unfortunately, her plan to look after the litter could not go ahead as her partner has a 'severe cat allergy'. Knowing this, he asked if they could find a shelter for the animals instead, but they ultimately decided to bring the cats home on a temporary basis.
"She kept asking and saying she had no idea if they'd be okay without her and I finally relented, as I'm not some heartless jerk," the partner said on Reddit. However, he was clear the cats could not stay forever.
"I said fine, let them in, under the conditions that she started adopting them out at 8 weeks, they stayed in the guest bedroom/bathroom, and I did not have to look after them except for emergencies," he wrote.
But four months later, the cats had yet to find their forever homes.
"On top of that, she lets them roam the house and tried to get me to clean the cat box for them the other day because she didn't feel like it. It's f*****g with my allergies and I keep having to open windows, stay in my room, and constantly wash stuff," the man complained.
As such, he thought the cats needed to be rehomed - and he thought his girlfriend agreed with the decision.
His post explained: "I started telling her three weeks ago that if she didn't put them up for adoption, I would and she'd usually ignore me. Finally, I made a post two days ago on Facebook and told her about it. She said alright, and I thought that was that.
"A couple of people responded, wanting the cats, so I set up a time yesterday during my lunch break and told her they were going. She said alright again."
She was not alright, however, when she returned home from work to find the cats had been adopted.
"The people came and four of the cats went to new homes. She got back, saw the cats were gone and flipped her s**t. I was frankly stunned because I told her this was happening and I told her there was a post-up and people coming to look at them," he said.
"But she's angry because I didn't let her say goodbye and other stuff. I think I gave her a full two months of goodbye time."
Accordingly, he wanted Reddit users to tell him if he was in the wrong. Most commenters supported his actions.
One person replied: "I know from a personal standpoint if I was in your girlfriend's position I would be just as upset in the moment, but you are very much NTA [not the a*****e] in this situation.
"It was your home, you gave her the conditions that the kittens had to go, they were affected your health, and you went out of your way to find good homes for them."
Another asked: "NTA, and I say this as a cat lover. Even though you have bad allergies, you allowed her to bring the cats into YOUR house, and then instead of dumping them at a shelter, you let them stay and then found them good homes. What more does she want?"
