Everywhere you turn online it's hard to get away from today's hottest recipe - Viking Toast. So I decided to follow the Pinch of Nom recipe and see what all the fuss was about.

To make this low-calorie recipe you will need 10 ingredients, which sounds like a lot for a simple meal but the flavours are definitely worth it. For the meal you will need milk, one egg, a small onion, reduced fat cheese, a slice of bread and a few other items. This dish is vegetarian-friendly and can be made both dairy and gluten-free as well.
I found the recipe relatively easy to follow with just four steps from start to finish. When mixing everything together it didn’t look overly appetising but I was trusting the process a bit at this point.

Once I had mixed everything together I went about toasting my bread under the grill, before flipping, adding the mixture then replacing the tray in the oven to cook. After about five minutes or so, I removed the glorified cheese on toast from the grill and placed it on to a plate.
Now it was time for the taste test - it looked like the picture so my fingers were crossed it would taste as it should. I was a little apprehensive at first but when I took a bite I found that it actually tasted really good, almost like an omelette on toast.
The onion, mustard and Worcestershire sauce add a great depth of flavour you don’t get from a bog-standard cheese on toast. I’m not a massive fan of mustard but it tasted okay. I may have put too much in as it says a pinch, and I did more of a shake.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone to try, it’s really easy to make and not that expensive if you have items like Worcestershire sauce and mustard powder at home already.
