I’m Rethinking My Coffee Table Styling After Emma Roberts Showed Me How a Thoughtful Layout Can Turn Ordinary Objects Into Art

Emma Roberts.

No living room is complete without a coffee table. Able to connect and ground the many components in a living space, a coffee table provides that all-important curated touch.

Whether it's a vintage trunk or a modern glass style, I've long loved adding a statement table to my living room and decorating it with only my most meaningful trinkets.

From stacks of books to a large candle, I used to keep the design minimal and scatter only my firm favorites. However, after seeing Emma Roberts' masterful coffee table decor arrangement, I'm now convinced that it's not about how much you place on it, but the way in which you do it.

Emma's coffee table proves that there's no such thing as too much. Featuring stacks of books, vintage treasures, and an effortlessly chic floral arrangement (all neatly displayed on a low coffee table, much like this Burl Wood Coffee Table from Wayfair), it's the rather clever layout that makes the setup so successful.

Emma's coffee table may at first seem simple, but it's actually the result of careful curation. Featuring a statement vase and plenty of books, it's a lesson in clever layout. You'll be pleased to know that recreating the look at home couldn't be simpler, particularly with these pieces that are just as stylish as Emma's.

Coffee table styling ideas might seem straightforward, but Emma's display proves there's an art behind them.

After gazing (far too long) at Emma's table, it's clear that the layout is what makes the design so impactful. More than a handful of books on a coffee table might seem excessive, but it's these many spines that make the display look polished and effortless. By stacking them in various areas of the table, the design feels cohesive and pleasing to the eye.

The books are the foundation for the other decor. The vase connects the multiple elements on the tabletop and brings some much-needed height and color to the contrast against the darker tones. Smaller vintage trinkets have been scattered accordingly, providing visual interest amongst the spines.

Martin Waller, founder of Andrew Martin, comments, 'A coffee table should take centre stage, whether it’s a classic design, a vintage find, or even a chic footstool pressed into service. Add a tray to anchor the look, then layer your favourite treasures, well-thumbed books and mood-setting candles. Color and personality are the lifeblood of any entertaining space, so don’t be afraid to mix sculptural pieces and antique curiosities. The best tables blur the line between art and living, turning everyday objects into an unforgettable display.'

Emma's coffee table is effortlessly chic. While the piece itself works beautifully in the space, it's the many thoughtful details on top of the table that make the design so impactful and elevated.
