I'm looking for somewhere to rent in Dublin and all I can find is a bunk bed for €650 a month

The Irish property and rental market has reached peak levels of absurdity and a city centre property on the market highlights the need for the sector to be overhauled.

The Government has signed off on an evictions ban to run from November to the end of March.

In an image shared on rental site rent.ie, the small room shows three sets of bunk beds in a confined area.

The description of the letting says the room is for three people in a shared room, at the cost of 650 per month, per person, meaning it will cost €1,950 the equivalent of making two mortgage repayments.

The ad says: “Shared Room in a fully furnished City Centre house available immediately. The room is for 3 people. Price is 650 per month per person. Next Door to Trinity College and Pearse Train Station.”

The description boasts that the property is located near Trinity College and Pearse Train Station.

Taking to social media, members of the public shared their thoughts on the shocking rent post.

One said: “Judging by the amount of bunk beds and the use of the word currently, I'd guess you could end up sharing the room with 5 other people”

While a second added: “You'd have more room on a submarine!”

Another said: “There needs to be a housing quality committee that fines landlords that do this kind of exploitation.

"We should be able to report this and have serious accountability.”
