I'm not usually watching Kylie Jenner's Knicks Game dates with Timothée Chalamet for outfit inspiration. Most times, the couple shows up at Madison Square Garden in fan gear I'd need a mortgage to afford: a Knicks-blue Kelly bag here, a set of themed lingerie there. But for her post-Met Gala return to the court, Jenner decided to undo everything I thought I knew about a jeans and a tank top outfit, with some decidedly rich-mom twists.

The first photos I swiped by online were surprisingly understated for a woman who'd just attended the Met Gala red carpet in a custom Schiaparelli dress requiring 11,000 hours of hand-embroidery work. Kylie Jenner was snapped in a Guizio tank top and dark-wash jeans—the laid-back uniform of women in all 50 states. If I hadn't immediately clocked Jenner's swishy ponytail and her Oscar-nominated date, I could have mistaken her for any fan cheering on the Knicks. Once I zoomed in on the details, I saw this jeans and a tank top outfit for what it was: a rich-mom's twist on the ultimate closet basics.

That plain white tank top and those classic jeans? They were just a blank slate for some accessories worthy of a dedicated Sotheby's auction. A close-up shot of Jenner and Chalamet hugging revealed a gigantic, pear-shaped diamond ring floating on her pinky finger. Once the pair sat at their seats, Kylie Jenner showed off the rest of her game-day accoutrements: a glossy, navy Birkin bag and vintage Miu Miu mules. All three pieces were her way of nodding to the Knicks' colors—just in a loud luxury font.

I'd never think to pair heavy diamonds and Hermès bags with something as simple as a jeans and tank top outfit. Then again, I'm not a "self-made" billionaire with stylists like Alexandra and Mackenzie Grandquist on speed dial. While I can't quite spring for the same accessories as Kylie Jenner, I can at least do this: The next time I'm styling jeans and a tank top, I'll set aside Adidas sneakers and a low-key bag for something a touch more elevated. The rich-mom look doesn't need a Jenner bank account—just a heavy dose of contrast.
