'I'm furious that my neighbour uses my bin - they're going to get it confiscated'

Arguably, neighbours can be one of the most gruelling aspects of owning or renting a home. Whether they're causing too much noise next door or there's a mishap with parcels, there tends to be a lot of unfortunate drama with the acquaintances next door.

Taking to popular forum Mumsnet, a woman fumed that her neighbours are continuing to use her bins to the point that it's on the brink of being confiscated.

She explained that her council has recently implemented a new rule that if bins are contaminated more than three times then they'll confiscate it and won't allow you to have it back.

She explained: "Has anyone had trouble with neighbours using their bins?

"I put my recycling bin out the other day and when I went out it hadn't been collected because someone put two black bags of rubbish in it.

"My council have recently changed the rules that if your bins are contaminated three times they confiscate it and you are not allowed it back.

"I don't know who it is but have my suspicions. Bin locks won't work as I don't know what time the bin men come it's different times and very early hours so I put my bin out the night before.

"I was thinking of putting it somewhere else like at the side of my house but not sure it will be collected.

Seeking advice, she questioned: "Has anyone had this and come up with a solution?!"

Taking to the comment section, Mumsnet users shared advice on how the woman should proceed with the situation.

One person shared their first-hand experience: "I have had this once in the past, I had to knock on neighbours door and tell them to come and get their rubbish back."

"Bin locks have a mechanism that will release when it's tipped by the bin lorry so you don't need to worry about unlocking it for them," a second said.

A third suggested: "I'd go through the bags and look for letters with addresses on."
