'I'm a midwife - here's why I would never wear a hospital gown in labour'

It goes without saying that not all births go to plan and not all births are the same, but there is one thing for certain - and that's that you'll probably end up wearing a hospital gown. An experienced midwife with over eight years in the field shared her vital reason as to why she - and other pregnant women - shouldn't wear one in labour.

The healthcare professional - who boasts more than 22,000 followers on account @ midwifevic by sharing her insightful information from the field - shared her advice on popular video-streaming service TikTok. In the video, she explained the top five things that she wouldn't do as a midwife, which sparked a reaction in the comments.

Vic - who has been a midwife for eight years and has undergone training for an additional three - explained that she would rather purchase a new gown than wear one from the hospital.

Whilst the gowns are professionally cleaned and starched, the midwife admitted that it personally "wouldn't be for [her]" and that she'd rather wear something "fresh and clean".

She said: "You might think I'm being precious, but I wouldn't wear a hospital gown - I wouldn't.

"I know they're cleaned and starched and I know most people don't care once they're in labour, but I wouldn't wear one.

"I would either wear my own clothes or I'd buy one and wear it fresh and clean," she added.

"Lots of people wear hospital gowns in lots of different situations, so it just wouldn't be for me."

Taking to the comments, fellow TikTokers praised the midwife for sharing the vital information, with one vowing that it's the "most useful thing" that they've seen in a long time.

One person gushed: "More midwives like you please!!!!"

"So helpful," a second penned beside a red heart emoji

A different user added: "Most useful thing I’ve seen in ages."

"YAAASSSSSS," a fourth wrote.
