I'm A Celebrity's Jill Scott gets a cockroach stuck in her ear during challenge

Former England footballer Jill Scott needed the help of a jungle medic after she got a cockroach stuck in her ear on Thursday's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! The 35-year-old, who was part of the women's Euro 2022-winning team, came a cropper with the creepy-crawly during the ITV show's Unlucky Dip challenge.

The sporting star told hosts Ant and Dec: "I've got a cockroach stuck in my ear." A man in a mask brandishing a flashlight then appeared to extract the six-legged invader.

"Come to the jungle they said, it will be fun," added Scott, while Ant promptly reminded her how, 11 years before, Olympic gold medallist Fatima Whitbread famously got the very same species of insect wedged up her nose after wearing a plastic helmet full of critters. "Jill, that was bigger than the one Fatima Whitbread had up her nose," he said as the cockroach emerged from Scott's ear canal.

But she wasn't the only one have a close encounter with some jungle beasties. Former rugby star Mike Tindall got covered in green ants during the Critter Carousel while actor Owen Warner was repeatedly dunked in a tank of crayfish (or 'yabbies' as they're called Down Under), eels, and mudcrabs as he took on the Fiendish Ferris Wheel challenge. As his head was submerged again and again he shouted: "There's no need for this."

McPartlin and Donnelly urged him to hurry up, laughing and responding: "Owen, get looking for balls." Grabbing coloured balls from the water Warner threw them into a box, contributing towards the final score, while sinister fairground music played in the background.

Each colour corresponded to a different campmate and, at the end of the challenge, all the balls were thrown into a tombola for a chance to win a surf 'n' turf barbecue and beach day. Warner had the most number of balls in the mix with 10 while Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver had only two balls. However it was Cleaver – alongside Scott and former English health secretary Matt Hancock – who were drawn at random to receive the luxury prize.

The trio headed off in a helicopter for their beach barbecue day where Hancock volunteered to cook a selection of shrimps, sausages, and steak. "Oh Owen, I feel terrible," said Cleaver.
