Finally it was someone else's turn to do a Bushtucker Trial on Tuesday's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! with the public having voted Matt Hancock to take on the notorious jungle challenges for the previous six nights. And, with the former health secretary of England given rare respite, it was the turn instead of '80s pop legend Boy George to take the spotlight.
The 61-year-old Culture Club star – along with fellow campmates DJ Chris Moyles and comedian Babatúndé Aléshé – certainly had a lot to live up to what with the West Suffolk MP having done well during his particular trials. And the rest of the contestants chanting: "Don’t come back without the stars" as the three headed off probably didn't help ease the pressure either.
The task, entitled Angel of Agony, was then explained to them by the ITV show's hosts Ant and Dec. "This is the Angel of Agony which is loosely based on the legendary Geordie landmark the Angel of the North so we're feeling very at home," said Ant.
He then explained that each contestant would have to take up their position inside the structure and work together to get the precious stars from the bottom of it to the top. However, once in position at the base, Boy George revealed: "I'm just letting you know I'm pretty nervous."
As a result the practising Buddhist could be heard chanting throughout the task during which he had to place his hands in a series of darkened holes inside which were scorpions. But it was Babatúndé who proved to have the most difficulty as he struggled to manoeuvre each star through a mesh lining to the celebrity above.
Then, with each new bungled effort, Boy George began to sing about rice and beans, knowing that would be all camp would have to eat that night. And he was right, because in the end the trio took back just a paltry three out of 11 stars.
