Reverend Richard Coles has revealed a unique way of dealing with possible starvation during his stint on I’m A Celebrity - he has deliberately been piling on the pounds.
The 62-year-old former Communards musician, who now practices as a Church of England priest, has been confirmed as a late entrant on the Ant and Dec fronted ITV show, which began last Sunday.
He will enter the camp during Wednesday’s episode, alongside former Love Island star Maura Higgins, 33.
While some stars aim to get in shape before going into the jungle, Rev Coles has recently returned from a cruise where he admitted to consuming up to “5,000 calories a day”.
“I think I'm already fatter since my measurements the day before yesterday, and will be for the next set of measurements,” he told the MailOnline.
“So no, I've not done that at all. I tried to, and I thought I should because I imagine the body will notice going from 5000 calories a day to 500 calories a day, but it's good, and I will lose a bit of weight.”
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant may not fare too well on just beans and rice, telling the publication: “I am mostly competitive in a quiz, but if there's a scramble for a buffet… When I was a vicar, they used to make me not go to the buffet because I would elbow old ladies out the way to get to the pork pies.”
He and Higgins will join the likes of WAG Coleen Rooney, 39, former X-Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos, 36, influencer GK Barry, 25, journalist Jane Moore, 62, and boxing promoter Barry McGuigan, 32, who have already been in the jungle for six days.
Another famous face who is set to get in on the act is TV presenter Ruth Langsford, 64.
There will be no bushtucker trials for her as she is jetting over to support Loose Women co-star Moore.
