I'm A Celebrity 2022: Who is Seann Walsh?

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! is set to bring two latecomers into the mix during Wednesday's, November 9 show. Matt Hancock MP and Seann Walsh are heading to the jungle and a preview for their first episode has revealed that they will face the Beastly Burrows Bushtucker Trial, which you can read about here.

Whilst most of us will have heard of Matt Hancock as he was the former Health Secretary during the coronavirus pandemic, not everyone will recognise Seann Walsh. The stand-up comedian, 36, said of joining the show: "People have voiced their feelings about me and I am hoping they will see I am very different. I want to create new memories."

He described how he was convinced to take part by his partner, Grace. “As you can imagine I was very scared after the last time I was on a big show because the fallout was not something you would want to go back to. Grace talked me into doing it. She convinced me it was the wrong attitude to have not doing it because I feared what people would think, but to do it because I would have a wonderful time," he said.

The "big show" that he is referring to is Strictly Come Dancing, which he appeared on in 2018 with professional dancer Katya Jones. Early on in the series, Seann and Katya were pictured kissing, thus birthing one of the BBC show's biggest scandals. At the time, the comedian was in a long-term relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries, while Katya was married to fellow professional dancer Neil Jones.

His relationship with Rebecca ended and he apologised on It Takes Two, saying: "I made a mistake, which I'm very sorry for - sorry for the hurt that I've caused. You never think about the extent of the damage that you’re going to do, in a moment of, you know the mistake that you’ve made."

He went on to say that while his relationship "wasn't perfect", he was "very sorry" for the way it ended. He added: "I feel it's also important for me to say that the people that know me the most, that love me, they know that I am not the person I'm being portrayed as. I'm still sorry for what I did, but it's very important for me to get that out there." Seann's popularity suffered as a result of the scandal and the couple were voted out of the competition in week six.

Aside from Strictly, Seann has also made appearances on Mock the Week and 8 Out of 10 Cats. Early on in his career, he won several awards for his comedy. In 2012, he performed his stand-up show Seann to Be Wild at the Edinburgh Fringe, which he then toured the country with. His 2013 Fringe show The Lie-In King also received good press.

Ahead of entering the jungle, Seann said: “I want to make some new friends and new memories and have a nice time." I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! continues at 9pm on ITV. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
