I'm A Celeb's Seann Walsh admits his 'career was dead' after Strictly kiss scandal

Seann Walsh recounted the moment he believed his "career was dead" in the wake of his Strictly Come Dancing scandal as he opened up about the events in tonight's episode of I'm A Celebrity.

The comedian hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons while taking part in Strictly back in 2018, when he was pictured kissing his pro dancing partner Katya Jones. Seann, 36, was in a long-term relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries at the time, while Katya was married to Strictly co-star Neil Jones.

Seann's then-girlfriend Rebecca put out a defiant statement after the infamous photos made the front pages, accusing him of "inappropriate, hurtful behaviour" and revealing that the pictures in question were taken on her birthday. Katya and Neil announced that they were divorcing almost a year later, but insisted that the scandal was not a factor in the break-up.

Talking to fellow campmate Babatunde Aleshe about the aftermath of the kiss, Seann admitted that his actions had left his career in ruins as he recalled a disastrous stand-up show shortly afterwards. "Easily the most depressing month of my entire life, Edinburgh after Strictly," he said.

"We get to Edinburgh, right, I think it’s a 200-seater, I’ve never not in Edinburgh sold out the first night. It doesn’t even occur to me that it’s not sold out. Just before I’m about to go on, my agent comes in and goes, 'Just so you know, there’s like 30 people'.

"To get told that when you’re just about to go on, horrific," Seann went on. "My career was dead, I was over. My agent said, 'There’s nothing I can do. I’m sorry, I’ve tried. I’ve tried everything.'"

Babatunde also confided in Seann about his struggles trying to make it as a comedian. "I stopped because I had a mental block," he admitted. "I can’t come up with new stuff. I just can’t come up with new jokes, it’s just not happening for me. I lost the love.

"I made the smart choice, left acting and I was just working, normal nine to five. Then a month later, everything changed. Everything," he recalled.

"Mo (Gilligan) invited me to do a podcast with him and then he was like, 'Oh, do you want to come on tour with me?' and then from there it just went crazy. From an office job to 10 nights at the Apollo to the 02 arena, to here. To the jungle. I’m so grateful for this opportunity," Babatunde gushed.
