I'm A Celebrity 's Boy George announced he was close to quitting the ITV series on Wednesday night, as Matt Hancock entered the camp.
Viewers noticed the tension building after his arrival, as several campmates made it clear they were not happy about the disgraced Tory MP taking part.
Babatúndé Aléshé was quick to confide in Jill Scott about the "tension" he was sensing in the camp, while two other campmates discussed the bombshell twist.
No one in camp knew that Hancock would be one of the new arrivals, alongside comedian Seann Walsh, so when they arrived they were visibly shocked.
As he made himself known, viewers were quick to notice the frosty atmosphere in camp, and soon things escalated when Charlene White grilled Hancock over his decision to be on the show.
Others shared their thoughts on the twist, with many not sure how to react to his arrival - and Boy George soon confessed he was considering leaving the jungle
Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, he became emotional as he said: "I don't really know what to do with my feelings. You know, today was obviously quite emotional for me.
"I don't know what it's going to be like, I actually don't really know if I want to be here."
Sue Cleaver soon encouraged him to stay, while she too shared her view on the matter - clearly not keen on Hancock.
She said: "Just sleep on it tonight. Look, why he came in and what he's doing here, it's not our responsibility and it's not for us to take on."
Sue later said in the Bush Telegraph: "George was having a bit of a moment. I think if I'm honest that most of us are sort of feeling it's a bit of a very strange situation to be in."
Meanwhile, Boy George wasted no time in telling Hancock: "You’re really going to get it. You’re really going to get it. Not from me. I mean just from…"
Prior to his confession to Sue, the campmate had revealed while he was struggling with Hancock being in camp.
Boy George told Scarlette Douglas: "You know, at the beginning of the pandemic my mum was in hospital. I wasn’t allowed to see her. I thought she was going to die.
"I was tweeting Greenwich hospital going, ‘Please look after my mum.’ I used my name, I was like ‘Please look after my mum.’ And they did, she was fine… I feel like, I don’t want to be sitting here like I’m having fun with him.
"It’s difficult for me because, you know, had something happened, if my mum had gone, I wouldn’t be here now. I would have gone when he walked in."
Boy George continued in the Bush Telegraph: "If I had lost my mum, I would go. And I feel a little bit selfish, you know, just kind of… everyone’s so nice to him and I was like Jesus, what we gonna do?
"I don’t want to spoil this experience for myself. I’m not good at hiding what I feel. Especially when it’s something so strong."
Viewers noticed the tension immediately with one saying: "George cannot leave. Loving the tension."
Another said: "The tension in the camp. I’m glad they’re angry he’s in there. I would have said something by now though," as a third tweeted: "You could cut the tension with a knife in that jungle. Defo going to kick off at some point."
It comes as I’m A Celeb viewers slammed Hancock 's arrival, after it was confirmed on Tuesday.
Speaking in the episode, Hancock shared his hopes for the series - but his comments fell flat with viewers.
The new arrival said: "This experience will be an adventure. When I'm in camp people will see the real me. Survival in the jungle is a good metaphor for the world I work in.
"People will see me warts and all and will all see the human side of the guy behind the podium. I don't think I've got any fears or phobias but I am about to find out."
Viewers were distracted from the VT though, still furious with ITV for paying Hancock to take part in the show.
Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "Anyone else think its disgusting ITV are paying Matt Hancock to go on this show after EVERYTHING?"
Another fan said: "As much as I love #imaceleb I actually think it’s vile on ITV’s part to even entertain the idea of having Matt Hancock on this show let alone paying him the amount they are."
A third viewer tweeted: "Don’t let this distract from the fact that they’re paying him FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS for this."
I'm A Celebrity airs every night at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
